Jon came back a while ago.

It wasn’t really rushed and 80% of the character didn’t know he was dead till he was brought back.

And Gendry was brought back to smith all of these weapons obviously. shite, I remember there was a time when a lot of us bitched about Gendry getting on a boat from Davos and never being seen again, and how dumb that was because they made it seem like he was important. Well now they brought him back and we see why, but you are bitching about that.

if they didn't mention smithing at all, would it have made a difference to you? was smithing ever a topic you thought about during the height of this show? again, was it necessary? no.

quote:

But nothing is "necessary" really though

that's not really true, though. when you write a story, you want to leave as much extraneous stuff out of it as possible (unless you're an auteur like David Lynch trying to buck tradition or if you're doing something surrealist, etc.)

re-introducing Gendry doesn't directly further anything. that's why it's fan service.

i can't remember if i said it in this thread or another, but they're also giving them all of this (terrible) development that occurred offscreen. they're all competent and noble and not real characters anymore. the bad part about this is all the writing and delivery is so hollow and hammy it's all terrible.

GOT was great when it was trying to show normal people doing normal people behaviors (to varying degrees of intelligence and competency). now everyone is john snow and the delivery is damn near camp (and i hate camp most of the time). the product is often, almost, like a parody of GOT

quote:

But then again, this entire episode was the quiet before the shitstorm that is about to happen, so I will allow them some time to have some "human" moments (as you said that you like) with some of these characters that we've known for ten years before they die.

this basic thing was said last week. hell even i said they'd get a pass if they used their time well (but i didn't have faith). they basically did a repeat of episode 1 (and tried to recreate the Blackwater battle episode and failed miserably)

quote:

You expect it to fail,

the way they set up season 8 kind of makes it difficult not to fail

God damn, if I watched TV looking for problems with what I was watching like a lot of folks in this thread, I would sell anything I owned with a screen. Must be frickin miserable to live like that

predicted this as well, cokes

and it's not miserable. you just appreciate good, well made things that much more

there is plenty of stuff you don't like, and if the content you did like turned into the quality/style you didn't, i'm sure you'd have thoughts

GOT isn't the first series to fall off a cliff (and get the same sorts of responses). i remember the exact same things being said when TWD was called out. the funny thing is, now EVERYONE hates TWD and it's acceptable to be negative about it. why? are all the people who abandoned TWD "miserable" because they quit?

People claim they hate where the show is going, but they spend an hour of their Sunday evening watching it, then spend the entire week shitposting about how much they didn't like it. Every. Single. Week.

i watched girls for over a season after i declared my undying hatred for it and would make a weekly recap of why that episode was shite

I liked the episode overall.

Regarding Brienne getting Knighted... I didn’t especially like the clapping. I would have preferred this:

She gets Knighted by Jamie. He says rise, Tyron says Sir Brienne of Taarth, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms!”. Camera goes back to her and Jamie and he says “You’re really fricked now.” And smiles.

Then instead of the clapping they all bust out into a raucous laughter and then you see her smiling. I think it would have worked out better and been a bit more to the character of the OH shite WE ARE ABOUT TO DIE.

Just a thought.

I think he could deduce those things by watching what was happening now.

For instance, watching Cersei talk about blowing it up, etc.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want my only functional weapon walking into a siege to be a short dagger.

Anybody wish that Jon and Jaime would’ve had some interaction?

Also, what’s up with Jaime having brown hair now? Same thing happened with Tyrion, they leave the family and the blonde goes away?

Westeros only has Just 4 Men in brown

You have to go to Essos to get the blonde coloring and there are more important things going on right now.

I want Tormund to sit on the Iron Throne.

Starting a GoFundMe to change the script. Y'all in?

Yep.

And nobody seems to be talking about how Jon CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD.

Sloppy, rushed writing.

You realize the characters have lives, interactions, etc even when they aren’t on screen? We’ve seen enough people react to these revelations, we don’t need to see every single person react
