When some asked me what I meant by cheesy CGI- yeah that flight around the arena was what I was talking about. Why not just have the awesome ascent upwards and then a huge jet of flame taking out the last remaining Harpies? SO much more dramatic.
What was wrong with it? It's a TV show. I thought it was pretty well done.

Yeah that was a pretty shitty CGI job, but probably the best you can ask for on a TV budget
Agreed. I think I let my expectations for that scene drop a little when they showed Drogon in the second episode this season. That CGI is just going to be tough to pull off.

I think he just meant that Shireen will be burnt and sacrificed by somebody. That's been built up and seems like her purpose as a character.
I don't think it'll necessarily be Stannis that does it. First off how the hell is he gonna get back to Castle Black? He's snowed in at his camp and can't really travel. And what traveling he can do is at a snails pace

I'm curious what they will do with Dany (been awhile since I've said that)
I'm just curious as to how long they plan on keeping Tyrion and Dany separated. We know that if they stay somewhat close to the books, Dany is back to the Dothraki Sea. I'm going to be pissed if they keep Tyrion and Dany separated for all (or most even) of next season, considering they just united them.

They probably shouldn't have shown her on the dragon riding off. That looked bad
If they had just shown Drogon riding off with her without the close up it probably would've been more effective imo

Oh, and the burning of Shireen completely took away from a pretty damn significant part of the story… the whole pacing this episode just seemed off.

Reading the Hodor thread and ran across this dumb post:

What Stannis did is horrible, but don't forget, Jamie pushed a little kid off a ledge because he got caught banging his sister from behind. Children have never been immune to evil in that world.

I wish they went the Jurassic Park route and made a Drogon animatronic head for the close-ups and spliced it in with the CGI. It would have made it look less cheesy. Of course, they probably don't have the time or the budget for that. I agree I wish they just showed her climb on and he flies away as he roasts some more sons of the harpy in the distance while they left the camera in the arena. That's kind of how I pictured it when I read it.
They should try to avoid close-ups with the dragons until it's necessary, because they are too big now and starting to look too fake.

To be honest, Stannis in the show has shown more love towards his daughter than he did in the books.
I never quite got the Stannis love on this board, especially from the book readers. We're talking about a guy who abandoned whatever religion he previously had for some whore that burned people alive. The same guy that treated his daughter like a prisoner. The same guy that ordered the execution of his brother. The same guy that almost killed Davos because the red bitch didn't like him. Stannis has always acted the fool in the books. This episode just reinforced the fact that he's always been a prick that never cared about shite other than becoming king.

Not really a matter of love for me, it's more Stannis's personality shown so far. He was conflicted about using his bastard nephew he didn't even know, can't see him giving up his only heir.
Given that the show has already shown us a Night's King Other, I also can't see your prediction coming through there either. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see him die to the Others.
One thing that wouldn't surprise me is Mel burning Shireen at the wall with her mother's permission once the Others attack, but could equally be with Stannis's I guess. But GRRM has foreshadowed issues coming from Shireen's grayscale a bit too much in the books for me to think nothing comes from that well.

I'm sure he could still get a message back to Castle Black if he wanted. He doesn't have to go there in person to tell his Red Witch to go ahead and sacrifice her.
I'm guessing that act is what puts a resurrected Jon Snow at odds with Stannis, and leads him to try and reunite the North under the Stark banner (hopefully with Rickon by his side).

Does anyone believe Oberyns paramours instant change of heart? I got the vibe that she poisoned Doran when she kissed his hand but I could've read that wrong

So outside of the super obvious big things that happened tonight we also got:
- Jorah touching Dany who then touched Missandei. Guess we'll find out if "the dragon" is immune to disease.
- Hidzar got the shiv shiv instead of just being captured.
- What is Ellaria Sand up to? Trying to sway Jaime to side with her and take down Doran? Or is Doran putting her up to something?

Nope. I think she's going to have them assaulted on the way back to King's Landing and that's when her face will be maimed.

Here's the precious irony of it though: The Others know the value of King's Blood as well. I'm thinking they murder all of his troops and take Stannis alive for a King's Blood ritual. Not to mention, Stannis' knowledge as a battle commander and knowing a lot about Westeros' defenses would come in much handy. Maybe in the show, turn him into the Night's General, but I'd love to see him pretty much become a demon and be submitted to eternal hell.

Meh, nowhere near how brutally depressing the Sansa rape was a couple weeks ago.
disagree, the death of the little girl was so much worse.

Without his consent it could not have happened. Davos is going to be SO PISSED OFF.
I hope Stannis is wiped out before the Onion Knight gets to Castle Black.

Didn't Doran find this plan out and ended it? And wasn't it supposed to be a tystan death that gets pinned on the lannisters?

Okay so I wrote this big long post talking about how the show has jumped the shark and how I hope viewership tanks and GRRM and D&D get tarred and feather IRL..
But then I remembered the red wedding, the purple wedding, and all the other messed up things that have happened in this show..the main difference between all of these happenings and this seasons (Sansa marriage rape, and Shireen's burning at the stake) is that we didn't know it was coming. Meaning we hadn't read it officially in the books and also those two characters are still safe and sound where we last left them in the books.
I also thought about how we would have reacted to this material in the books vs. seeing it with fresh eyes. I think we would all be more accepting of these tragic events had we been able to read and process it beforehand and our experience would have been much better with tonight's episode.
I was screaming at the tv during those scenes, I'm still very pissed off, but I think we all need to remember that this is what this show is about..the shock value. And I'm sorry but frick shock value, that's not why I read the books or enjoyed the show up till now.
Down with the sick pigs that thought this shite up and decided to film it.

I'm not if it was shitty CGI or just shitty directing - I hated the slow-mo.
