She previously almost killed him. I don't know about you all but I would no longer have any feelings for some broad that had put three arrows into me. In fact I would likely go out of my way to get some payback if I lived in that world.
I guess he gave her a little credit for not outright killing him? Like Tormund said...he could tell she missed the "kill spots" on purpose. And maybe he felt like he deserved it too for leaving her.

About to rewatch the episode in a sober state of mind and see if I still think that was the best episode of TV I've ever seen.

It was spectacular.
Sam is going to start rocking. Great character progression.
Jon Snow is the man.
Ygritte dying was my only complaint

We still haven't watched the episode. It will be interesting to see my wife's reaction to Ygritte's death, she likes the character.

3. Why doesn't the giant who can lift the gate just lift it and let them men through? There appeared to be a few giants. They could rotate in shifts. Poor planning on behalf of the wildlings? *I understand this may be part of a show just being a show.

It's down to just Jon and Sam, now, of the guys that started with them, I believe.
Pyp got it from Ygritte and Grenn from the giant - I think those were the last 2, between the big battle with the wights/WWs, Craster's Keep (twice), and now this battle - all the rest have been killed.

the death of his friend gave him extra adrenaline to lift the gate
Also, I think the wildlings were already running away at that point? They're barely trained or organized at all, so even though there's thousands of them, seeing their friends get nailed by burning arrows, flaming barrels and giant anchor-things was enough to make them turn tail and run until Mance could re-organize them and send them back the next day.
ETA: Point being, I don't think anyone else was left in that area. That giant was just mad seeing his other giant friends die.
