I'd have to compare it to Lost. They even have a shared actor and shared director

What would you compare it to?

Not much. It has relative Lost vibes but only relative ones, and mainly because some of the same people are involved, it has a mystery/supernatural sort of vibe to it, and Michael is in it. So Lost is a fair comparison even though the shows aren’t overly similar, if that makes sense.

Basic premise is it revolves around a place people get stuck in, and there are monsters around who torment people there. That’s basically the first 2 minutes of the show and it goes from there.

It’s sort of a slow burn, but there are more things happening and answers than it seems. It’s also fairly intense at times.

But it’s really good and really fun trying to figure out what the frick is going on. And there were some pretty big reveals in the last season+. I feel like the show is getting better honestly, and I really enjoyed last season. But it needs viewers and more people talking about it. I’m shocked they already greenlit S5 but am pumped to see how they end things.

I think you're underselling the parallels to Lost. I liked Lost so it's not a bad thing in my opinion. This show is faster paced though. Lost had like 20+ episode seasons.

Just started rewatching s3 to remember what happens. Is the daughter in the show really not related to the mom? They look exactly alike it’s crazy.

I think you & I are on the same page with this show. It will drag for a few & then something intensely unexpected happens. The ending to S3 was a what??? moment. This show is savory & unsavory all at the same time.

I'm probably in the minority but I dig it more than Lost.

The beginning of 4 has a solid recap. But 1 ep released?? Kills the vibe a bit.

The new episode was fairly good. Something seemed off; it felt like there were more cliché moments and character actions I think.

It's still my favorite show on, though.

They have always done that. I remember in the S1 thread I was watching them on demand and the OD schedule was like two weeks ahead of when they aired on tv. It was super confusing and no discussion caught any traction because people were watching different episodes every week.

So eventually I stopped looking for them on demand and just waited until they were recorded on my DVR. That’s still what I do to this day.

I wasn't a huge fan of the direction they took with the wife and cool breeze being there before as OGs but I'm definitely down for this season

You should be grateful you’re getting five seasons. FROM definitely should have more viewers and buzz, but shows like this usually get cancelled after a couple of seasons.

I give credit to MGM+ for keeping it going, but they’ve also generated revenue by shipping out earlier seasons to their parent company Amazon, and Season 1 was on Netflix recently.

That first episode of season 4 was great!

Spoiler below

I was really confused when Julie didn’t know where her dad was when he didn’t come home that night considering she was with him when he was killed. Has to do with that Julie that was with him being a “storywalker” apparently

Yeah that threw me a little as well. I assume the storywalker thing means she finds out next week that it happens and then tries to enter the ruins to fix or affect it (which is sort of confirmed by the previews for next week).

Solid first episode though.

So Jim is sort of alive. But I assume with Julie’s new gift they will bring him back somehow. And the monster that killed Jim has a buried suitcase.

New person sees the tree: a priest/preacher.

Fatima: the monsters were people but they “made a bargain with something horrible.”

You’re telling me Fatima gave birth to that thing?
Yeah.

I see Kristi’s hair is just as dumb as ever.

I’m super glad they showed a SUPER up close shot of Elgin's eye being seen shut. I definitely needed to see that in gruesome detail. Thanks.

New people: Sophia and her dad (a priest or preacher). Wait. I’m pretty sure he was alone at the tree in the beginning.

Tabitha references that she and Jade have been coming back “for centuries.”

Sinatra “Send in the Clowns” plays on the diner jukebox.

Sophia is acting weird.

Looks like Smiley coming back may have finally broken Boyd. That was their goal.

So Jim and Tabitha’s house has a ghost now? Wtf?

Something definitely off with Sophia.

Okay yeah, shes a fricking monster. That makes sense. I knew that priest was alone at the beginning of the episode.

So we have a monster admit to “everything they learned.” So we know the characters are actually making some progress toward figuring some shite out about this place.

Is this the first monster we’ve seen operating out in the open during the day? If so that’s new and I need to add it to the list.

Any reason this wouldn’t be a good series to watch with my 80 year old parents?

I think he's of a far different ilk than Smiley and the assholes who sacrificed their kids.

He's a bit higher up the food chain and is seemingly unaffected by the talismans as well as the daylight.

The Elgin stuff was very difficult to watch.

If they're cool with a lot of swearing and some extremely gory violence, it should all be copacetic.

Certainly seems to since he can morph into a different person (or whatever we're calling that).

I agree with that, and that's a good point about the talisman. Although I've always wondered if those REALLY worked or if the monsters/place just allowed them to "work." If that makes sense.

If the talismans do actually work, I also wonder if them being let into the building matters. Like clearly the pastor and the girl were let into the clinic, so maybe once a monster is let in the talisman is sort of irrelevant since it's not a barrier to entry anymore.

I added some of your comments from the previous page. Although most of my notes on page 1 are from S3 only since that's when I started making lists. But I added pertinent stuff that you mentioned. I did have a question about this though.
quote:

The monsters can return to life after killing them. They are immortal due to sacrificing their children. Jade and Tabitha didn't so they are cursed with constantly returning to the town.

Is it confirmed that they didn't sacrifice their children? I think all we know is that they lost their daughter there. I assume they did not sacrifice their kid, but have we gotten more information about their history or what exactly happened yet? I watched the last 3 or 4 episodes of S3 over the weekend and don't remember anything about that.

I disagree. They have a similar sort of vibe in that they are both shrouded in mysteries around a place (island in Lost and the Town in From), but outside of that there isn't much else the same for me. And if Harold Perrineau wasn't in it I don't think it would be compared to Lost too much at all honestly.

Also, all notes on the first page of this thread are updated through this post.

Do they generally like horror and ultra gory violence?

If so, then go for it.

You may be right. I wish I had time to do a full rewatch leading up to this season. I just checked some reddit threads and there doesn't seem to be a consensus so I don't think it's confirmed.

The returns to the "real world" and back to the island. The hint of time travel. The possibility that everyone is dead. The Smoke Monster in the woods vs the spider webs and whatever moved Boyds tent. The visions of dead relatives. The others in the town that may/may not be trying to help them vs BIW, Martin, etc.

shite, hadn't considered that. Of course he/it was let in.
