A trailer for the July 10 film will debut on Monday, and Vanity Fair got an exclusive glimpse of the new characters at the heart of the story, with The Leftovers’ Carrie Coon starring as mom Callie, I, Tonya’s Mckenna Grace as her science-obsessed daughter Phoebe, and Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard as gearhead son Trevor. They have left everything they know and moved to a small town in Oklahoma after inheriting property from the father she didn’t know.

quote:

We probably won't see much of the classic characters until the film itself reveals what became of them over the past three decades. Callie and her family are also wondering how those guys fit into their lives.

“As the family arrives at an old farm, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters,” Reitman said. “Trevor and Phoebe are about to find out who their grandfather was and whether they’re ready to pick up the proton pack themselves.”

quote:

While her brother tinkers with the car, Phoebe finds herself transfixed by the mystery of their new town—not just by the peculiar subjects in their dilapidated home, but strange rumblings from a nearby mine. In this shot, she and her schoolmate (played by Logan Kim) ignore warning signs to venture closer to the abandoned and dangerous place.

Sounds like the family is Egon's. I'm getting a bit of Stranger Things vibe too.

I would agree. That stranger things kid would have the most physical look of Egon with that nose.

..I'm not usually one for adding a character into a film posthumously..but in this case, maybe this would be the film to do that in?

If the all female one had balanced the characters better and had been a true homage and successor instead of trying to replace them, it might have succeeded.

This one seems to be honoring the originals. I'll at least think about going to see it.

It already looks good.

I don't want to be a troll, but man will it be fun to watch the reaction from some if this is a good, successful movie compared to the 2016 thing.

This is disappointing. I am still excited, but i obviously had a different idea of what this movie was going to be like

I'm thinking they will either be in small roles or just flashbacks. We need to see how Ecto 1 and all of their gear ended up in a little farmhouse in Oklahoma. I think that will be the interesting part.

This is the proper way to continue/reboot the franchise. Actual tie in to the originals. Not just shite on it with a couple crappy cameos of the actors but the characters. I wish the kids were older to continue the business. But I’m sure they will figure something out if this is successful.

I hope Paul Rudd is more than just the kid's teacher. He seems like a natural fit to be a member in a reboot.

I think he pops in every now and then to do some voice acting. But he's pretty much retired now.

What tipped you off on this? The fact that he hasn’t acted in over 20 years?

ETA: I need to eat lunch, sorry for being rude
