I'll come out and say this:
it's a disturbing aesthetic.

Sauron (as Annatar) is supposed to be very fair and attractive, a good-looking dude you want to hang around, and agree with, so you look cool too.

I seem to recall some of the early buzz coming from the more alt-crowd saying "he's dreamy"...

I dunno. I'm not the best judge of this, since "my type" is an athletic young woman. But this fella is straight-out creepy looking. Worse than Jake Busey in Contact, and that's saying something.

But he (maybe the other guy) was also screaming at me that Sauron shouldn’t be sexy in another thread. So idk what he wants.

No I said alluring. If you saw this guy when you were walking down the street, what would you do?

You would run in the exact opposite direction as fast as you could and call the cops that there was going to be a mass shooting. That is not Sauron in any of his forms.

They're definitely looking to target a demographic group, rather than adhere to the spirit of the source material.

This actor looks too young for the part. Does this look like anyone who could fool a bunch of wise Elves into thinking he's really a good guy?

Again with these fricking buzz cuts and short hair. NOBODY in Middle Earth had a buz cut and Sauron did not look like Intergalactic Beavis.

This is Lazy Creators 101: Subverting Expectations

Give the audience what no one asked for instead of what they want. For some reason, this gimmick has caught on in the entertainment industry. These creators think it's clever, and they're being cheeky by throwing the audience a curve ball. 'What??? Short hair!! That's not what I'd expect to see in Tolkien's Middle Earth!!'. Sort of like NOT putting Han, Luke and Leia together again in TLJ. An absolute devastatingly bad choice which I think changed the course of that entire franchise.

Looks like a fricking dweeb with an eye condition.

Not intimidating at all.

Nah, like was already said in this thread, short hair is cheaper and easier to deal with on a shoot. It was more than likely done b/c of cost cutting and how much faster it makes things when getting the actor ready for a scene.

Shouldn't Annatar basically be Brad Pitt in his prime, someone like that?

Should be someone everyone universally considers a stud, and oozing with charm. Someone even the Eldar have a hard time resisting.

I don’t think they’re sparing any expense with this production.

I can almost guarantee you this form of Slim Shady is not Sauron.

The creative team behind The Rings of Power has said that in this series, we’ll be seeing Sauron in multiple forms as he tries to assume total power over Middle-earth. So while Boon might be Sauron in some sense, he could also be an underling, an emissary, or even some minor villain completely unattached to the Great Evil that Galadriel is trying to raise the alarm about.

This, I can see.

Guy looks EXACTLY like the type of person (Elf, whatever) that would fall for Sauron's lines. He might be the Mouth of Sauron, a future Nazgul (I haven't seen the ears, don't know if he's Elf or Man in appearance), or one of the Elves that welcomed him into Eregion.

Ok, so browsing around on youtube, there's a good bit of speculation on all this.

We have no confirmation this weirdo is Sauron, and a lot of commentary that he is too obviously a villain to be that. Classic misdirection.

Here's an interesting theory I stumbled across (almost wish I didn't ):
this Halbrand dude, that we see with Galadriel a few times...

He is an unknown character, yet seems to save Galadriel in one of the shots. You might say she should trust him...
He's wearing bracers in this pic. Might be nothing, might be what a blacksmith would wear to protect his forearms.

Somebody has stated Annatar will be 'revealed' at the end of Season 1, which might mean we don't see him before then, or we don't KNOW he's Annatar/Sauron before then.
There's the casual "he has not one name, but many" comment, which again goes to suggest Sauron will be 'in disguise' early on.

Digging a bit further into this; I'm now seeing this person isn't even a guy, it's a woman.

Bridie Sisson

Definitely the same person

So, NOT Sauron.

Honestly that's hard to tell that it's a woman. Maybe that's intentional and the character is meant to be nonbinary.
