Minus the eyes (although you’d occasionally show them but not to any of the characters), this is what Annatar (Sauron) should look like:

That looks fricking stupid

Feeling like the studio and money people think they are making a commercial product. The writers think they are making an equity based messaging device.

But the guy in costume design just wants to burn this motherfricker to the ground

This fail will be a sight to behold.

You would think with a budget of nearly $500 million they would be able to make the project look and feel good. It's the writing and characters that most of us are worried about.

So, apparently Amazon spent like $450M on sets and infrastructure in New Zealand and then, once the nation went full Fuhrer with lockdowns, Amazon had to pull the plug on the entire country as a staging area and then had to move all production to the UK, and buold all new stages and then had to move all of their NZ sets and rebuild them in the UK.

Amazon also spent around $250M just to get the rights to what little material they could, which basically didn't include much of anything from the Silmarillion, the Hobbit (hence why they can't use the term in this show) and LOTR.

So, by simple math, the show basically pissed away $700M BEFORE casting, crew, costumes, writers, equipment, lighting, marketing, etc.

Which leaves only about $300M (likely a lot less b/c of marketing campaigns and the cost to relocate everything from New Sealand) to fund and shoot 2 full seasons of this show on.

So, if I had to guess, they are probably now likely on an ultra tight budget for the actual show and thats why the costumes look so bad and there are so many characters with short hair so they don't have to fit and fund huge wigs for 100+ extras and actors every scene.

Regardless, it still doesn't stop the fact that they have clearly butchered the essence of the show and books by what they have released so far.

No one in their right mind with even the slightest bit Tolkien knowledge would cast whatever the hell that is as fricking Sauron... Who is one of the most legendary and powerful villains in literary history.
