I'm in the middle of the 4th season by now. Took long enough but finally decided to watch it. And yes to no surprise, it's amazing. One of the best shows of all time. I can't say enough great things about it. Great acting/characters, writing, and just does a great job of displaying the Baltimore drug scenes from different points of views from the drug traffickers, people living in the neighborhoods, the police officers, the politicians, the schools, the press. They went in depth into everything and I thought it was set up so well. They even showed some nice views throughout Baltimore which I didn't think existed.

Overall great show. Avon is the GOAT and Clay Davis is hilarious. Looking forward to seeing how it ends. Love to hear yalls opinion.

Nothing will ever top it in terms of scale and scope.

Notes In A Criminal Conspiracy?

I remember being blown away when I heard Idris Elba speak for the first time. He was so convincing when I watched it the first time….that being said, rewatching it later I could definitely hear some British in season 1

Lester Freamon : We're building something here, detective. We're building it from scratch. All the pieces matter.

I really like McNulty too. Seems like a cool dude.

And yeah I agree about Idris Elba it's night and day his real life British to his accent in this show being so different. It made me laugh.

Was my second favorite season (I rank it higher than most).

Welcome to the club. Still is in the top spot as my #1 show of all time. It’s that good.

I enjoyed my first rewatch more than the original viewing
Was able to pick up on lots of subtle details the second time through

Definitely one of the best TV shows ever made. Maybe even the best. Just a phenomenal work on every level.

Caution mild spoilers… I enjoyed the last season the first time around. But I have become a little jaded about it. The brilliance of The Wire is its unflinchingly look into the workings of a city - crime, police, politics, corruption, education. They pulled no punches and exposed the worst while still showing people trying to do good things in bad situations.

The last season unfortunately, treated the media with kid gloves, even romanced the notion of the common man reporter. I wish they had taken a harder look at it, and exposed more of the rot and corruption in journalism too.

But even the last season of the Wire is still better than 98% of other TV shows out there.

After 3 seasons. I rank it:

3
2
1

I LOVED the 3rd season. Some of the best television ever. Even though I loved the drug angle following the Barksdales in season 1, it still wasn't as good as 2 or 3.

So far, I have season 4 way behind season 3, but 4 and 2 are toss ups.

I’d go 1, 2, and 3. I’ve never understood the hate season 2 gets. It’s a great show that the younger generations should definitely watch.

5

But the beauty of the show is that peoples’ rankings vary a good bit. Some hate S2, some love it and rank it first.

The only fairly universal thing is that S5 is ranked last. But you’ll see why that is. But that being said the “worst” season of The Wire is still excellent television and better than most other shows. And S5 does tie things together and has a fantastic ending montage.

I gotta ask. Did McNulty hate Harbor Patrol or love it? Never could figure it out.

It was not what we expected that is the beginning and the end of it. Frank Sabatka and the stevedores took screen time away from all the characters everyone loved or loved to hate from S1. We would have been content just to see the S1 world over and over but the creators gave us a much bigger view into Bodymore.

S5 is the weakest but the weakest season for the best team is still better than the best season for the vast majority of teams.
