For starters, I don't even have a good reason as to why I've never watched them before, just missed the boat on them as a kid and never have gone back and watched them. I definitely played Rambo type shite throughout my childhood, I used to LOVE the badass Rambo knives and some of my friends had, etc. But for whatever reason I never saw them. I also had no idea there were five movies (forgot all about the '08 and '19 ones).

After watching Over the Top recently and still loving that one, I saw that the Rambo movies were airing on one of the movie channels. So I recorded them (the first three) and have watched the first two in the last few days.

I'll say this: neither one of them are particularly good or particularly bad, and overall I liked them well enough. I do feel like I was expecting them to be better though (or the first one anyway...the second one was more what I was expecting). The first one has very little plot outside of "Rambo pisses off a local cop the runs into the jungle to do Rambo shite." But they were VERY simple movies, which I can appreciate I guess. I do think that the main reason I was semi-disappointed in them is because I waited so long to watch them though. Feels like had I watched any of them in the 80s or 90s as a kid/teen I would've liked them much more. But now they just sort of feel dated and not overly good. But then again, a lot of the Stallone-written-and-acted movies back then have a similar vibe.

The second one was a good bit better than the first for me. It was much more in line with what I thought a Rambo movie would be, and I also dug the whole "go to Vietnam" plotline. Also the asian chick in the movie was gorgeous.

I did get a chuckle our of the way Stallone walks in both of the movies though, especially the second one. Looked like he had a stick up his arse and was trying to pull off the whole "Do you know where the weight room is?" routine. And the gratuitous shots of a roided out Stallone were funny as well. And of course this shite right here is both laughable and awesome:

And I did always sort of indirectly love Rambo for giving me the completely awesome Rambo scenes in one of the funniest movies of all time (and one of my all-time favorites), UHF:

Anyway, feels good to have finally caught up to the boat that I missed and seen some of these movies. I plan on catching 3 this week and then hitting up Rambo and Last Blood as well. Is that a mistake? If I enjoyed the initial 2 well enough, I assume I should enjoy the rest of them as well, right?

First was the better movie while the second was the more rewatchable one.

What.. No sir.

2 was the best of its era and Rambo (2008) was the best of them all.

3 was a lesser version of 2. First Blood was its own thing and Last Blood was a lesser version of Rambo.

Loved both of them.

In the first one i was disappointed that he didn't fill "a lot of body bags". But, I guess he really didn't want to kill Americans.

in the second one i could have done without the stereotypical " we go America?". But, enjoyed the jungle warfare parts.

First Blood is a really good Vietnam vet movie.

If you're ever in Hope, British Columbia (where they filmed the movie), make sure you go visit the Rambo statue

First Blood was an outstanding film and the original ending (Rambo dies) would have made it even better.

FB2 was good for what it was - mindless action film/Boomer revenge flick. I haven't felt it necessary to watch any of the others.

First Blood is great and has one of the best monologues in film. The rest of them are just cliched action pics of that era.

Not sure which film came out first, but 1985 was the peak pissing match between Stallone and Arnold.

There's a reason Commando and Rambo II are basically the same film.... One man against an entire army... And the star kills everyone.

First Blood is a real movie, though. It's about PTS and Vietnam vets and bigotry and the expendable nature of the war machine.

The rest of the Rambos are just Stallone mindless kill fests. Entertaining... But pretty shallow and transparent.

First Blood 2 though is still incredibly rewatchable.

I liked First Blood. Never really cared for the others, though I know I'm in the minority.

I loved First Blood because of the setting, Brian Dennehy, and ol Art Mustache but I was never really interested in the others

Has there been an better actor who plays the smug, arrogant a-hole as well as he does?

I've always thought the made for TV movie In Broad Daylight about the killing of Ken Rex McElroy and his performance in that role was very underrated. I don't think anybody could've done it better

I remember reading the original First Blood novel after I saw the movie on HBO when I was 13 and being pissed that the book ended with Col Trautman blowing Rambo's head off with a shotgun.

I guess that was too graphic for 1982, which might explain the director/Stallone altering the scene to show Rambo shooting himself in the chest with Trautman's sidearm for the original movie ending.

First Blood stands alone as it's own franchise to me, as it was an actual good movie.

Rambo is a totally different series about an almost super hero.

I thought 3 sucked but the fourth movie, Rambo, was very good.
