Seeing a lot of love for Exorcist III here and in the WTF thread.

What's the appeal here? Those horror sequels are usually utter garbage. I didn't even know this one existed.

The fact that George C. Scott plays the main character indicates that it's no run of the mill sequel. It's creepier than the original imo and has the single best jump scare in horror cinema history.

Thanks for the recommend on this one. Did some research into it this morning and apparently there was some friction between Blatty and the production company (seems this was the bane of his Exorcist life) over content, especially the ending. This is one nasty little movie. Lot of good inside ball type stuff to read about this movie, which apparently has the most under the radar cult following of any horror movie out there.

Some of mine
Friday the 13th part VI Jason lives and the 2009 reboot
Halloween III as well as Rob Zombie's remake (I know some aren't fans of the direction with Michael but I liked it, was a fresh take)
The Crazies remake
Slither

Also like The Thing from 1982 but that's not an exclusive Halloween month movie for me.

There are a lot of really good fright night movies noted here, but one did not get mentioned. Arsenic and Old Lace. This thing is actually a great comedy set around Halloween in Brooklyn in the 1940’s and made in black and white by Frank Capra. Cary Grant, Peter Lorrie, Raymond Massie and dozens of character actors from the era. Do yourself a favor: dial it up and watch it with your kids, grandkids, or your parents or grandparents. You’ll be entertained.
