Just looked over the thread to see if anyone mentioned Sterling Hayden using a harpoon in the final showdown in "Terror in a Texas Town" (1958).

Didn't think so.

How about the entire movie of the Quick and the Dead. Great movie. Sam Raimi style, great performances by Hackman, Crowe, DiCaprio, and Stone. The premise was great and the execution was great.

Haven't seen it in years, but I remember loving the gunfights between Crowe and the indian, and Hackman against the hired gunslinger, among others.

The Open Range scene was great and seems more realistic than most. (Except the flying after being shot part)

Movie trivia: Bearded shopkeeper with shotgun is Herb Kohler of Kohler plumbing fame and fortune.

I was going to post the gunfight between Hackman and DiCaprio. Kid going against the unbeatable villain who appeared to be his father, actually being good enough to get a shot off and nick him, a surprisingly gut wrenching death scene "I don't want to die..." and reaching for his father, etc. It was one of the first times people that thought that little DiCaprio kid from Growing Pains can actually act.
