Not one episode in particular, but the first few seasons are some of the best tv ever written.

There are a couple:

Seat of Power (S2 E11):

quote:

Niles becomes agitated when the plumber called over to fix Frasier's toilet turns out to be Danny Kriezel, his nemesis from junior high. Frasier encourages Niles to speak to Danny as one adult to another, but finds his own resolve tested when confronted with Danny's older brother Billy.
quote:

Frasier: You know the expression, "Living well is the best revenge"?

Niles: It's a wonderful expression. I just don't know how true it is. You don't see it turning up in a lot of opera plots. "Ludwig, maddened by the poisoning of his entire family, wreaks vengeance on Gunther in the third act by living well."

Frasier: All right, Niles.

Niles: "Whereupon Woton, upon discovering his deception, wreaks vengeance on Gunther in the third act again by living even better than the Duke."

Frasier: Oh, all right!

The Matchmaker (S2 E3): Daphne is depressed with her love life. Frasier has the idea of setting her up with Tom Duran, the new station manager, and invites Tom to his apartment for dinner. What he doesn't know is that Tom is gay, and thinks Frasier is interested in him.

quote:

Frasier: What on Earth could have made him think that I was interested in him. All I did was ask him if he was attached and then we talked about the theater and mens' fashions, Oh my God.

And the one where Niles gets an Italian Greyhound and everyone dies because she looks just like Maris.

The costume party is the best. Epic episode from the acting down to the script.

Niles: and I have proof

Frazier: From here it smells like eighty proof!

THIS is what made it such a great show. You had to have a baseline of intelligence and education to appreciate lines like this, but had to be unserious enough to enjoy the sight gags, pratfalls, and sexual innuendos that surrounded them.

The way the show mixed highbrow wit with slapstick made it seem almost like a live-action Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

The one where they take the class on auto/engine repair and they misbehave - including passing notes in class. The instructor finally intercepts a note and makes to read it for the class. Then (exasperatedly): Does anybody speak French?

I'm just starting my first run with it. Seen some episodes when I was younger but was too young to really understand. I'm nearly done with season 1 and absolutely love it so far.

I’m on the last season.

I don’t want it to end.

The season 1 finale "My Coffee with Niles" (the plot is a riff on My Dinner with Andre) is one of my most favorite episodes. The dialogue, lighting, and exterior rain make it a particularly easy episode to fall asleep to.

I feel like half the show has been talked about in this thread, but still no mentions of the awesome bicycle episode ("Two bouncy tires and a taut chain...that's good ridin'") or the one where Frasier keeps having the sex dream about Gil.

I forget the title of the episode but Niles, and Frasier both end up in a hotel room with Lillith and Niles is having episodes where he dozes off for no reason

It is hard to pick just one, but the Halloween episode where we learn Roz is pregnant and Miles drunkenly stands up for Daphne's honor is a masterpiece!

Which makes sense now that you say it. Every time I see that one I think how it would be a great play.

The throwaway jokes really made this show...

Frasier: You know what, I'm just going to call Kenny and tell him to give her her own show. They're looking for a replacement for "Let's Go Camping With Dan & Jenny."

Martin: What happened to them?

Frasier: They don't know.

Been thinking of some of my favorite Martin lines.

s6e1 "Good Grief" when Frasier is depressed about losing his job.

Martin, after overweight Frasier collapses sobbing: "Somebody get that montecristo in here!"

"High Holidays" the s11 Christmas episode where Martin eats a pot brownie: "What do you think this means [squints at paper] dog army?"

There's one in a later season where Roz is writing a children's book (with the exact plot of Heidi) and Martin runs an idea for a series of books about Eddie by her and she makes some suggestions, he makes this perfect face of disgust and says "You don't really *get* Eddie, do you?"

Mommy?

I'm about halfway through season 8 on my first full run through the whole series (probably seen 75% of the episodes over the course of my life but never done a full on watch through).

One yesterday wasn't necessarily the funniest I've seen but I really loved the storytelling. It was the one where Frasier makes a small decision at the beginning of the episode that sets in motion 2 different paths based on the decision. One he meets a hot girl and they date for a while while niles/daphne kind of hit a spat. The other he has terrible dating luck adn niles/daphne are great as ever. Towards the end of the "good" timeline the hot girl leaves him and ends up meeting the guy she's "supposed" to meet anyway (that we saw in the opening scene). It ends with the 2 timelines converging in the form of frasier in his car making a decision to go meet a lady that had called into the show.

Not necessarily anything grounbreaking or mind melting but I really loved how it all played out.

On a separate note what's with daphne getting fat as frick in season 8? It's a running joke in the season how huge she is. The wiki page doens't mention anything about it. Did they give her some padding for the purpose of that storyline or was she fat IRL?

Pretty sure she was pregnant IRL at that time and that's how they chose to deal with it.
