Started out slow then built up nicely. The other seasons are garbage. Well the second had some moments.

I like seasons 1-3. Didn’t watch any of 4 but heard it wasn’t very good.

Billy Bob and Martin Freeman are fantastic in S1 though.

The hefty gal is also fantastic. Season 1 is still my favorite.

I'm on episode 5 of season 1 right now. Really good so far, one of the better things I've watched on TV in awhile. Billy Bob plays a great role so far. One of those villains thats good at what they do with no remorse, makes for a great/eerie villain.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^

1-3 is awesome. 4 was trash. 4 didn’t have the same spirit as the other seasons.

Season 1 was great, couldn't get into the others.

Its amazing shows like this that change plot/cast season to season just seem to go downhill.

True Deterctie
American Horror Story
Fargo

All blockbuster 1st seasons and then poop.

To be fair, True Detective season 3 was phenomenal…TD season 2, however, may have been the worst TV I’ve ever seen.

Billy Bob was the best, but Season 2 had a lot of memorbale scenes and characters too.

Season 2 was even better than Season 1. Season 3 and 4 were sort of meh but that might be because Season 1 and 2 are so strong. Billy Bobs character might be the best of all seasons though.

I like Season 2 about as much as Season 1, maybe a bit more. And I think Season 3 is a bit underrated here. To me two of the most memorable scenes of any season are the opening of Season 3 in East Germany, and the bowling alley scene (Season 3). Season 3 gets a bit out there, which I like, but the story isn't as cohesive as Seasons 1 and 2.

Remind me again how the opening scene of season 3 plays into the story? One thing I remember about season 3 is that the villain was another terrible, remorseless person, completely devoid of humanity. And I remember the ending was a WTF kind of deal.

Three ways I guess, first - creating an atmosphere of a world where the truth is difficult to discern, or even irrelevant. It seems like a nod to Kafka's The Prisoner, something Fargo has referenced before.

The East German is hauled in and charged with the murder of Helga Albrecht. The Stasi confuse him with Yuri Gurka who is the actual murderer. The actual Yuri Gurka is one of Varga's henchmen, and after he is wounded in the woods he ends up at the bowling alley where the mystical guy recognizes him and confronts him with a vision of Helga Albrecht and villagers killed in a pogrom by Cossacks. I've got some reasons for this scene but I'm not going to go into spoilers. Simple version - Nikki passes judgement and is allowed to continue, even with some help. Yuri has the opposite fate.

The opening scene also balances the closing scene, which is also an interrogation, with the question of "is there truth" hanging in the balance.

First two seasons are the best. Didn’t care for season 3, but I enjoyed 4 even though it was different.

Season 2 was the best. And right up there with the best season of any TV show.

Season 1: absolutely great; Billy Bob and the Hobbit killed it;
Season 2: very good but didn't stick the landing with a bizarre unsatisfying ending;
Season 3: very good again and Mary Elizabeth Winstead was an absolute smokeshow, great villain;
Season 4: relied on woke themes and cheap easter eggs and callbacks to the other shows and the movie; quit watching after about three episodes.
