Rewatched on Blu-ray after not seeing it in ages. Part Shakespearean play, part Monty Python, part Star Wars... so many familiar elements all wrapped up into one unique story.

And yes, a bit of 80's style nudity too.

Patrick Stewart, Liam Neeson and Helen Mirrin as Morgana.

Fun fact.

Boorman decided to make this movie after losing rights to live action LOTR. A lot of the sets had already been built for the LOTR and were repurchased.

And I really like this movie.

Love this movie and score. Also, Nicol Williamson version of Merlin is magic.

I absolutely love this movie. Nigel Terry will always be King Arthur to me. He has perfect chemistry with Nicol Williamson who fricking nails it as Merlin. I need to get a helmet like that. Helen Mirren is super hot and a total fricking evil bitch as Morgana and perfect for the role due to her and Nicol’s real-life hatred for one another. Mordred in the gold suit is a scary ‘som bitch. Cameos by Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson, and Patrick Stewart are fun to see. The best scene IMO is when Old Lancelot returns in pure deus ex machina style and kicks Mordred’s army’s arse with a morning star while wearing padding instead of armor. I get chills every time I watch this scene. Nicholas Clay for the win! The movie also introduced me to classical music. The soundtrack is legendary in its own right. In short, this is quite an underrated gem—a great fricking movie!

Great movie and GOAT movie on the Arthur legends. My favorite is the last ride of Arthur and the knights. The music and that scene still give chills.

There is so much underlying symbolism in this movie that is off the charts. From the Old Testament to the New Testament,
if you know where to look it can be overwhelming.

Boorman's daughter played Arthur and Morgana's mother. When asked on the DVD commentary if it was uncomfortable to direct her rape scene with Gabriel Byrne, Boorman shrugged off an answer about him being a director and her being an actress.

I thought that Terry and Clay would have had bigger careers after this. It turned out that pretty much everyone else in the cast did.

The scene of Arthur submitting to Uryens in battle and giving him the choice of killing him as a squire or knighting him so that he can ask mercy of another knight... That scene is up there for me with Errol Flynn's Robin Hood being faced with King Richard and immediately showing that he was a true obedient knight of The King.

One of my favorites growing up. I rented it countless times from the video store.

Eh, I wouldn't say that. There's the whole scene when Percival finds him and begs him to return. He doesn't exactly come out of nowhere.

Percival finding the Grail is the best sequence in the film.

Boorman still has the sword. It sits on his piano.

Pretty sure this was the first thing I recorded off cable using our Betamax VCR back then.

I can still recite the charm of making on command...
