I watched the movie and I thought it was fine. I realized exactly what they were trying to do. They were trying to move away from the Skywalker importance. They also seem to mirror Rey and Anakin path.

Both were nobodies.

Both gave into darkness easily.

BOth are alone with no parents.

It was the Jedi and the events surrounding Episode 4-6 that made the Skywalker line seems special.

However, Snoke said it in the movie, whenever a powerful dark presence rised up, the Force will raise another to balance it.

In the original Six Part Saga, it was made to appeared that everything the Jedi did, everything the sith did, all those thousands of years lead to the culmination of the Skywalker line.

When in reality, It happened all the time and the Skywalkers are nothing special. Episode 8 theme was said by Kylo plenty of time. Kill the past. Let it die, Let it go.

So I am going to predict that Episode 9 will be opened ended, there is no more Jedi and Sith, just Force users free to do whatever they like.

That would also set up for the next set of Trilogy by Rian Johnson to focus on more epics set in the SW universe. That SW 1-6 was just the focus for that point in time but more is coming, more powerful character etc etc.

I can see why they killed Luke Skywalker off too. He anchored the franchise more so than Han and Leia.

Probably, but there are dozens of ways to do this better. Here are some ways not to do this:

1) Don't reflect everything in the new films to the old films
2) Don't bring back characters you'd rather not have influence on the film
3) Don't make the intent of the movies to kill something people love

That's a start.

I think xiii is made with contempt directed towards the force awakens which is why it’s not a good sequel

Sequels build on things, they don’t tear them down. You can make something new and original without tearing up the previous
Movie

That’s why it’s a bad sequel not why it’s a bad movie

Don’t announce to the audience what you’re doing with 4th wall breaking exposition

Rey is a nobody, so then there’s no need to address that she’s a nobody

Save for the characters themselves, they address nothing from TFA.

the next set of Trilogy by Rian Johnson

Unless there's some kind of total redemption for IX, I'm out on Rian Johnson

Here’s a line I like but I hate why it was written

“Take off that mask you look ridiculous”

That felt real and was appropriate but it’s also johnson breaking the 4th wall which he does many times...the underlying message of all of it is, “yeah the force awakens is a rip off, I know some people hated it, I did too. frick that movie, now watch me rip off The OT just as much”

That’s not why the movie doesn’t work

It’s a flaw, and why it’s not a good sequel. It’s a bad movie structurally and fundamentally

The only thing I genuinely dislike is how this movie cheapes TFA a bit for me. TFA is my favorite Star Wars movie of all time.

I don’t care about what people think about it in relation to the OT.

My only problem with how 7-9 is being handled is that 1-6 are all about one thing, and now 7-9 is about something mostly unrelated yet Lucasfilm still decided to call them 7-9 and say they're a continuation of the same story.

You can't have a 9 story saga where 1-6 are about one singular thing and 7-9 are about something totally different.

I don’t like how it discarded everything but that’s not why it’s a piece of shite

It just makes the poo smell more rank

Neither do I except when talking about the nuts and bolts of why the first 2 were so great. Those are the same nuts and bolts that make any movie great

Hey guys, I heard your complaints about TFA. Kylo’s mask is not functional and just there to be a Vader rip off (which is true, I like that he discarded it to become his own person. It’s more subtle 4th wall breaking than kyko’s monologue after he kills snoke)

It was one of the better lines in the movie, but I know why it’s there
