guessing it's because of it hitting Disney+ and being promoted there

Ahh, seems early for it to be on there but it’s a whole new world.

Its actually been there for a month or so. I know because I've watched it about 75 times with my twins.

We don't fricking talk about Bruno.

I liked it much better than Coco which I found depressing and almost morbid. I know that’ll earn me some downvotes.

To each his own, but what is "morbid and depressing" about Coco is the essence of a human soul. The Greeks called it "the grief of memory". We English-speakers less poetically translate it as regret. Having this as the heart of its theme, along with the stunning animation and cinematography, is what makes it a masterpiece, and in my opinion, the best PIXAR film. Finding Nemo fits in my second slot and certainly has far more humor.

"Let it Go" peaked out at No. 5 from the article in the link.

I watched this with my niece and nephew on Christmas Eve and I'd put it in the middle tier of Disney movies. To me everything but the animation was average and while I enjoyed the songs the only one that I really liked was Surface Pressure - although We Don't Talk About Bruno was good.

Man, lots of Luca hate. I absolutely loved that one. Admittedly, my 1-2 year old loves Luca so that biases me a little bit, but IMO it's pretty great in its own right. It's really, really good.

Yeah I liked Luca way better than Encanto. It didn't have sing-alongs, but the plot was miles above.

Ever since John Lasseter left Pixar their quality has gone to shite which is why Disney has been releasing their newer ones direct to Disney+.

I thought the animation was gorgeous! The music was great as well. It fell short on explaining why they were separated from Grandpa and why they have the magic. The story of the cracks in the house and getting it back is great.

Coco is easily the best, in plot, in songs, in animation in execution.

Encanto has a couple good songs but just a boring, shitty plot/story.

Luca was a pleasant surprise and a very entertaining tale.

1.Coco
lotta space
2. Luca
some more space
4. Encanto
5. Raya (so many plotholes and stupidity)

All of these movies are on repeat and I hear the damn songs in my sleep. Luca is awesome and I liked it immediately - The soundtrack is amazing and I love the Italian riviera setting. Same with Coco - If you have time check out the Day of the Dead Concert on Disney plus with the live renditions of the music. Moana grew on me. Encanto's songs are catchy (Not in a good way) and I find the characters to be annoying. Hoping my wife and kids get over it soon.

My kids can’t get enough of this flick, want to watch it constantly. Me and my wife enjoyed it a lot, surprised to see the lukewarm response on here.

My kids and wife love this movie, I thought it was decent but sort of predictable. They listen to the music like all the time.

They are just getting too serious with the plot. I miss the days when they were fun flicks. Now they have have to contain some element of serious emotional conflict

I’m honestly starting to actively dislike this movie even though I don’t think it’s bad. The Bruno song has been stuck in my head all fricking week, and it’s really getting to me.

The music is catchy, but I don't think it's particularly good. It doesn't really relate to anything other than the movie.

You could have heard "Let It Go" from Frozen, without seeing the movie, and probably could have related to it. If you've never seen Encanto, you wouldn't know who Bruno is so that song would make no sense to you.

ETA: "Love is an Open Door" is another example from Frozen. That song would make sense to you even if you've never seen the movie. I'm sure there are others from that film too. Even Angela Lansbury's "Beauty and the Beast" made perfect sense without seeing the film, and it shares a title with the movie.

Great songs from movies should be like that. I don't think any of the songs from Encanto rise to that level. They sound good, and are well written, but I don't see how they can maintain popularity without the film.
