New Disney animated movie out today.

It was okay. Musical in vein of Frozen that’s more for girls than boys. Was a cute story and characters but not really interesting in terms of story. Pretty predictable. Overall 7/10.

Sounded like an excuse to hire nothing but Latino voice cast.

I’m not all that interested in this movie at least until posters I respect start raving about it, but this is the same bullshite Parmen was saying about Coco.

I’ll hold judgement until I try the promos at McDonald’s.

Saw it today with the kids. It was fun and the characters were very likable! The trailers didn’t do it justice.

The origin of their magic was kind of random though. It didn’t really explain what or where it came from.

The music was good and sometimes very funny, but we’ll see if it stands up on its own. I wasn’t super impressed with Frozen 2 music, but people love singing those still.

Happy Thanksgiving to all…except those who feel the urge to share the racist thoughts that rush into their brain at a moment’s notice.

Assuming it is the usual $19 on Disney + right now?

Now this is a fantastic movie.

Actually thought it was pretty solid. Music was excellent.

For anyone who loves Coco, this is very worth checking out. Maybe Disney’s best since Wreck-it-Ralph. Stunning visuals. Really clicked with Luisa’s song early on. Third act takes a hard turn from the fantasy to tackle a really great portrait of family drama.

One thing I always think with Coco is the family, especially Abuela, gets let off the hook a little bit for some times they cross the line to keep Miguel from music. This movie feels like it addresses things more head on

I feel I would need more viewings to determine that. I think it did some specific elements better than Coco, but Coco is very strong in its own right.

Coco is just exceptionally strong in the landing. If it’s even in the debate, I’m interested.

IMO Encanto is strongest in its landing. One of the recent animated films I was most frustrated by was Finding Dory, which both literally and figuratively jumped the shark with Dory just finding her parents.

Encanto’s ending does not shy away from the issues causing the House Madrigal to crumble.

I thought the story was pretty boring, didn’t really go anywhere and then circled back to where it started without any explanation….magic door knob? Idk, kids thought it was ok, I think I snoozed off a couple time so may have missed something. I would definitely put it in the lower tiers. Music and animation were good but the story lagged.

Yeah. I thought it was cute but predictable. And I’m not with people here on the songs. They got better but they started bad imo. I could barely make out most of the words in the first one.

I was looking forward to this one because of the music. I like Lin Manuel Miranda's work on Moana, so knowing he did the songs for this one had me excited. I'm still going to go into it with an open mind, but I don't like hearing that the music isn't a strong suit.

The last two were good and all of them are very much imho a style: The spoken word, story-telling rhythms.

The movie and the songs were ok. I would give it about a 6.
Wike and kids(17/12) enjoyed though.

My kids, 8 and 6, liked it fine. Was not as good or memorable as Moana. The visuals were great. Very bright and colorful. The characters were likable but the story was thin. The songs were fine but none on the level of the big hits from Moana or Frozen.

I liked it much better than Coco which I found depressing and almost morbid. I know that’ll earn me some downvotes.
