I was a very young kid when the original Star Wars came out (ANH).

So I am just curious. In watching some interviews with the actors particularly, Mark Hamill. Was it really a big reveal that Vader was Luke's father?

Obviously, it wasn't revealed for certain until ROTJ but I remember thinking almost instantly during the conversation with Obi-Wan in ANH that Vader had to be his father.

So I guess my question is, did very few people perceive that or am I a super genius? ....jk

Any others that were not shocked by the big reveal in RTOJ?

Based on your use of punctuation and sentence structure, no. This is a mess

Same. Thought Vader was just screwing with his head for some reason. Crazy to think that we had to wait until the next movie came out to verify it. We didn't have 24/7 analysis and leaks back then.

The original movie was supposedly originally a stand alone. After it blew up Lucas allegedly sat down and outlined the rest of the trilogy.

I don't think there's evidence of a Yoda existing, Luke and Leia being twins, or Vader being their father until Lucas had the opportunity to write additional material beyond the first movie

How much did Lucas luck out in getting Vader off the Death Star before it blew up in Star Wars.

This is false. He had an outline already written for 9 films. That is why it was called Episode 4. He did wait to see if it was successful before fully completing the Empire story line.

I’m sure it was done so they could do a sequel in case.

It wasn't called Episode IV when it was first released. Likewise, it was not A New Hope. It was just...STAR WARS.

Original Opening Crawl as seen in 1977

I must be the only one who was puzzled as to how Vader could be Luke’s father.

I thought he was a fricking robot/android/machine.

Written as if you read about Star Wars in 2015 and decided to finally watch it.

I was fluent in German when I was a kid, so it didn't take much for me to think "Why do they call him 'Darth Father'?"

Luke I am your father was a phrase I knew before I ever saw a Star Wars movie so I guess I am a little envious to those who got the surprise reveal.
