I don't follow politics so there might be subtle hints that I won't pick up but I mean the President had pictures of herself with Clinton

Just watched it, it for sure poked fun at both sides. Supposedly on set Streep would go into these wild political rants in front of everyone and it turned off a lot of the cast and crew to her.

Thought her demise at the end was pretty funny

Also got a chuckle from the bit about the 3 star general charging them for free food

It was alright but not something I’d watch again

I just finished it and thought it was fantastic. Not surprised the MAGA crowd on the board aren’t fans.

It’s kinda terrifying that this could happen though, and just kinda points out that our humanity is really just one small blip in the grand scheme of things.

This movie was God awful. Wasn’t funny or even entertaining. I knew ahead of time that it was satirical based on climate change, and I decided to watch it with my family anyway. 20 minutes in, I thought maybe my family will enjoy this $400,000 they will get if I off myself from watching this disaster.

OK. 1:45 in and I see the political slant. Apologies. This is definitely a Leftist movie. Sorry

Didn't notice the slant that much. Took it more as politicians only caring about themselves, remaining in power and what can they gain. Even with the earth about to be destroyed that's still all they care about. Did not think it was good and its very rare I turn off a movie while killing time at work. Skipped to the end a little over half way through just to see what would happen at the end.

I mean they were having rallies with the same style hats, chants ("don't look UP, instead of MAGA), anti-immigration (against one's from Chile), tons of other subtle jabs. It was pretty obvious towards the end.

Hill was funny at times. But went a bit over the top. The ongoing bit with the General was the funniest part to me..

The fact that ITT the president has been seen as Clinton, Trump, and Biden indicates it pulled the layer of hitting both sides well.

I thought Hill did a good job. A bratty son of the president walking around the WH with his Richard Mille watch and what purported to be a Hermes Birkin in the crook of his elbow was hilarious just on premise.

Dark comedies are apparently difficult to pull off, just not many of them work well. Add to that getting the chemistry right in a movie with a wide range of talented actors seems hit or miss as well. I didn't hate it nor did I love it. It seemed to fall awkwardly between massively absurd and wholly believable but still funny.

This part may make no sense but it felt much of the time like it was not really making fun of real life but it was a spoof of a movie I have never seen. Maybe it is just making fun of the absurdity of modern life in toto is simply too big of a bite of the apple. I kinda felt like by the end so many issues were hit but most felt like they only got half of a sketch bit accomplished.

I think it was too ambitious even for the long 2.5 hour run time.

I give it a solid 3.6 roentgen.

Just watched it. Didn’t like it. Others may find it interesting but when it’s all said and done over all this movie is a bust.

This is hard to pull off with a 2.5 hour run time is the biggest issue. The movie would be fine at 1.5 hours. Need to be at least as funny as django to pull that off. Hell the eddie Murphey dolemite movie was funnier than this. I did enjoy it but i had nothing better to do. Anyone pressed for time should give this a skip for now

Trying to find it, but I feel relatively confident this is the case. I remember back in 2016 that McKay says that Cruz would be the last person in the world he’d vote for President and his personal politics only make him hate him 1% more than he does in everything else.

I highly doubt this is true.

They are not the same age and didn’t go to the same schools.

McKay went from Philly area to Chicago for improv then to New York for SNL.

Cruz was Ivy League then DC and TX.

McKay went to Penn State and Temple, apparently.

Ted Cruz’s roommate at Yale was Craig Mazin who did Chernobyl, the Hangover series, and the later Scary Movie set of films.

What was the problem?

It’s 100% balls on accurate about the current American Society. This move actually pissed me off more than anything. I already hate social media and television shows and American infatuation with pop stars.

Without reading through this thread, I’d imagine the people who hated this movie are Trump supporters.

Everyone is equally fricking insane. I don’t understand how none of us can’t meet in the middle anymore.

Got it, yes I am mistaking him for Mazin. My bad, guys. Everything I said about McKay SNL going forward stands though.

I just watched this morning and I can't say I hated it but it seemed a bit long. Personally I don't think it was too bad with political lecturing, there were some political themes and satire in it but it wasn't too much in your face, at least I didn't think so.

I won't be going out of my way to watch it again but overall it was okay

Just finished watching. Can't say I hated it. The last 20 minutes was the best part of the movie. But won't watch it again.

If you choose to sermonize via satire, your product must be some combination of smart, funny, and/or entertaining. Otherwise, just make a documentary like Al Gore did.

Idiocracy, In The Loop, and Veep are examples that worked. This movie does not. It will be totally forgotten within a month. DiCaprio's worst movie since he became a A-Lister.
