I’m like 5 episodes in. So far the only intriguing part of the story is Don’s past and how he changed his name and stuff. Peggy the receptionist is the 2nd name on the credits and she seems to be a main character. There’s no real intriguing story for her at the moment.

So is it just the first few episodes that are 90% just day to day work at an advertisement company or is it like that the entire time?

It’s not for everyone. Not gonna be crazy shite happening all the time. But most get attached to the great writing and characters.

I knew that coming in. But if the entire show is just day to day work on advertisements without an engaging overarching plot there’s no way I can watch 7 seasons.

They get into some of the home lives of the characters. But, the show is mainly about the relationships at the office. It's really about getting invested in the characters themselves and not about what they're doing if that makes sense.

If I'm being honest, I probably wouldn't have liked it at your age.

I watched the first season initially, and thought it was pretty good but didn’t get hooked.

Gave it another try a few years later and binged it all the way through. Would call it one of my all time favorite shows now.

It’s an enjoyable watch. Take it for what it is. Nothing ever really happens and lots of storylines develop without any real closure.

It’s basically about Don Draper’s life of being a shitty human being and wanting more, but never really getting it.

It’s a really good watch while relaxing with a drink at the end of a long day.

Most of responses are dumb and unhelpful. I knew coming in it wasn’t an action show.

At this point, 5 episodes in, there’s nothing especially interesting about any character outside of Don Draper. Everyone outside of him seems like extremely normal people.

Feel free to tell me what I am supposed to find interesting about Peggy Olson in the first few episodes. She’s literally just the stereotypical secretary from the 60s at this point.

I’m sure it is in fact a good tv show, but all of these responses basically implying that I didn’t love the first few episodes because I don’t have a refined enough taste are unhelpful and lazy.

Like the Americans I stopped after the third season. They both supposedly get much better afterwards but they bored me so much I quit.

It took me a couple/few tries to get into Mad Men, I think the first half of the first season is slow to hook you in but I enjoyed the series overall.

If you don't like the first season (make it to The Wheel at least) and then move on because that's the show.

Does it get better? Well it stays consistently great. It doesn't get worse at least like a lot of shows.

So to answer your question, if you don't like Season 1 you should move on.

That's the show.

This exact fricking thread has been done a million times. Nobody cares if you like it or not. It's obviously not for you.

I've seen every episode at least 3 times. I'd say that if you've watched 5 episodes and don't like it, you're not going to like it later on

I feel like your time is better spent watching a Nicholas Cage action flick.

I watched it when it first aired and I enjoyed all of it so if you’re only 5 episodes in and not enjoying it then I recommend moving on

ETA: I’m 35 and enjoyed it when it originally came out, it’s obviously just not your cup of tea

I think it gets better. There is a lot of character development to go if you're only 5 eps in.
