It might be the best historic drama series i've ever seen. Really felt like you were stepping back into '60-'70's with the drinking, smoking, attitudes, etc. And the fact that they were hawking the latest American possessions and talking about what people wanted just helped it demonstrate the pulse and character of the country at the time even more. It was like a time capsule come to life. and then the great acting from too many to mention.
Yep
And for it being largely in an office it was beautifully shot. I think it's just a really immersive show.
To OP's credit, there are occasionally revered shows that are genuine slogs to start that get much better. I put Breaking Bad in that category. I don't think Mad Men is in that category.

I liked it, even though there were like no murders

Mad Men haters will get a kick out of this...
Not Great, Bob: An Analysis of Mad Men's Greatest Scene
This Brit is taking the piss out of Mad Men.
I guess that's the joke on us fans, poking fun at the fact that we find meaning in the seemingly mundane...decent satire of the show.

Mad Men is a cerebral series. There will not be car chases, bar fights, or shoot-outs. Some here have complained about episodes ending with the camera fixed on Don Draper looking out a window. That's the beauty of this show; you have to think a bit. You have to feel what's being shown; to infer. Mad Men was on another level with such things and has yet to be replaced, in my view. Prestige television.

I love mad men but it isn’t for everybody.

You gotta watch the episode when Pete really becomes Pete.
Rewatched a few episodes of Season 1.
It's where you know, the characters are becoming the plot. Season 1, episode 7.
