Matt Smith & Paddy Considine give awesome performances.

In season 1. Season 2 the writers just forgot about him and wasted a good character for an entire season.

They should have. They had very intricate sculpture and weaponry. King Viserys had that highly detailed miniature recreation of the lost city of Old Valyria. With that ocean of books in the Great Library of The Citadel, you'd have had some drawings, if only as reference for medical and architectural texts. And all of those famous banners were created by some type of artist.

Weren't there pornographic paintings on the walls of the red keep in HotD?

IIRC they looked somewhat like Greek or Roman paintings.

I don't see why they wouldn't have paintings. They have sculptures

I have never thought that cave drawing were especially primitive. The shading on the bison-like creatures in many different caves gives three dimensionality and there is even some suggestions that some of the beasts in that newly-found cave in France, that the beasts are running.

Were they for worship or for teaching younger members of the tribes how and what to hunt?

The bas reliefs carved in ancient history got faces right. Even the hair control as well as the clothes.

To get the colors is a whole 'nother world because volcanic terrains weren't around for (I'd guess) 99% of all mankind. Not just colored muds, but the blues and greens and on and on.

Renly shows Ned a painting of Margaery, said he reminded him of Ned's dead sister.

Yeah I just find it somewhat hilarious how crude our paintings were for so long.

They had painted images on some shields for the heraldry.

Were grown adults back then as limited as toddlers are now? Bc they drew the same.

How do we know that cave paintings weren't made by children? We just assume that they were made by adults but we don't actually know that.

I’ve never seen it and won’t watch it. Game of thrones to me these days is seasons 1-6 and the rest jettisoned from my brain.

some of y’all are so dramatic

Its honestly hilarious..

He enjoyed game of thrones seasons 1-6 when they were going off the books GRRM wrote. He didnt like seasons 7-8 that D&D freestyled

So it convinced him not to watch House of the Dragon which is based off a finished book by GRRM (Fire & Blood)

GRRM has said it's set in the equivalent to pre-gunpowder medieval Europe. That would be about the 13th century and this was the standard for portraits at that time.

The prosperity of the Renaissance was what afforded people the spare time to develop artistic techniques.

Exactly. I never noticed it before but there’s soooooo much intricate artistry in GOT + obviously they’ve developed paint and dyes as there’s a shite ton of it used for buildings/clothes/maps/etc…

I’m sure it was just a set/costume/budget thing but watching this show for the 5th+ time I looked to my wife and just said “I don’t think there’s a single wall hung painting in all of game of thrones”.

I guess I’d still expect paintings of rulers and kings and things like that. Not necessarily frivolous art but more institutional stuff.
