It's only been there since like 1990, the theme is replaceable. Song of the South is from the 40s. No kids give a shite and the people who actually knew of the movie from their childhood are probably mostly dying off. The swamp theme and Tiana will make more kids happy. This isn't even Mr Toads nostalgia and they took that away.

The name change wasn't needed, most people will keep calling it splash mountain as it will pretty much be the same ride track.

I wonder how many people knew that splash mountain was inspired by song of the south anyway ?

People probably didn’t know where the song came from, but they sure as hell knew the song itself Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.

Hell most of the TV commercials for Disney parks in the late 90s early 2000s played the song.

However, kids today barely know who Br'er Rabbit is (if they even know at all) so the ride needed updating. And the nostalgia thing is overblown, people should be making new memories with their kids.

I’m still looking forward to riding it with the new theme next time I go. Only thing about the new technology at Disney and just rides in general at Disney is they tend to break down more often now. All the years I went in the 90s and early 2000s, I never remember a ride breaking down. This year that I went, a lot of rides were down and I heard a lot of people in the parks complaining.

Is it because of the technology or Disney taking profits from the parks to stop the bleeding in other areas of the company? General maintenance and upkeep have been neglected since covid. It's not just newer rides either though. Everest hasn't been fully functional for nearly 20 years now. They developed one of the most advanced animatronics ever built and it worked for a few months. Now they just throw a strobe light on it bc it would cost too much to fix. At least the term disco yeti was born from it.

As far as Splash Mountain, I was disappointed initially, but I rode it shortly after the announcement and the condition of the ride had deteriorated to the point that I don't think a regular refurb could save it. Now, I'm more concerned about how it fits into Frontierland.

This is the first time I ever remember being more excited for new things coming to Universal than I am for new things coming to Disney.

I mean the actual ride is the complete same. The only thing that changed is the decorations. Apart from some die hard Song of the South fans who will hold their kids away from this ride in protest, I think Disney will be completely fine regarding this.

This.

I went to Disney World last November and rode Splash Mountain more than a few times with my (under 10 years old) children. The rational thinking person in me hates the change because it is nothing more than yet another example of vapid corporate virtue signaling. It will accomplish nothing from a societal standpoint. No one is going to change their views on race simply because an amusement park ride has a new theme.

That said, an overwhelming number of kids riding the ride had/have zero concept of the "Song of the South" movie. A movie that came out in the 1940's. And one that hasn't been terribly popular with children for decades. During the ride the theme was largely ignored because, to the kids, they are just eagerly (some dreadfully) anticipating the "big drop" and not really paying all that much attention to the background.

or something from the movie probably.

My favorite part is the back story of the ride. Tiana has opened an employee owned co-op. The back of the water tower says "Never lose sight of what's really important." Meanwhile, their park employees across the world are protesting and being shut down for a pay raise. Also, Iger was quoted as saying the writer's strike was "unfortunate and unrealistic". The theme of this ride is absolutely hilarious and I have no idea why nobody has talked about it.

They almost always cycle out older Disney rides, this isn’t an exception. If they’re still going to Disney, they’re going to ride it. And likely enjoy it.

Which ones? Not the iconic ones.

first I think it’s dumb they got rid of the name Splash Mountain. it’s an iconic name and it’s not necissary. rides get referbished all the time. my son’s generation will only know this ride and have fond memories and my generation will be making memories with our kids. Princess and the Frog is a cute movie with fantastic music so i am sure this ride will be cute, but i’ll always miss the original.

Yeah my kids (oldest now 10) freaking loved splash mountain man. Kind of a throwback that was just fun and pretty unique.

Snow White, Mr. Toad, 20,000 Leagues, The Timekeeper, Alien Encounter, Stitch's Great Escape, Delta Dreamflight, Skyway, The Legend of the Lion King,

Backlot Tour, The Great Movie Ride (RIP king)

Horizons, Universe of Energy, Body Wars, OG Journey Into Imagination, World of Motion, Maelstrom, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Kitchen Kabaret, Food Rocks. Plus they've had different versions of Spaceship Earth and Test Track.

That's just the ones I can think of, I'm sure there are others.

just off the top of my head

Figment in Epcot got a reboot
Tiki Room got a reboot
Maelstrom got a Frozen facelift
The Kitchen Kaboret became Food Rocks became Soaring
They Added Jack Sparrow to pirates.
I think StarTours just got an update.
Me Toads Wild ride was an opening day attraction and now it’s Winnie the Pooh.
Spaceship earth is about to get refurbished but idk if that’s a full facelift or what.

they added Iago and Zazu in the 90s.

wiki says it caught fire and now it’s back to the original al.

i haven’t been since I was a kid but my parents say Carrousel of Progress and Spaceship earth are the ultimate power nap rides.

Nah, son. The GOAT power nap was Sounds Dangerous in Hollywood Studios. Literally a pitch black room where you couldn't see an inch in front of your face. Worst part was you actually had to listen to Drew Carey's voice, but at the same time that gave you all the incentive you needed to go to sleep.

10-12 minute nap and you were back on your way. It was glorious.

ETA: Ellen's Energy Adventure also contended for GOAT status, mainly because it was like 40 minutes in the (mostly) dark. But it was kinda loud at times though.

You could always travel to Tokyo to get your Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.

Japanese aren't all hung up on pandering American sensitivities.

Though in June they admitted there might be talks of a rebrand but the ride will remain the same for the foreseeable future.

The best part was it used headphones so you could just take them off and then you have a dark, quiet room.

And the illogical new name sucks compared to Splash Mountain.

Disney has had a lazy contemporary habit of just slapping Adventure onto their themed rides.

I’ll give you 20000 leagues, Mr Toad and the Great Movie ride but the big main attractions like Space Mountain, Big Thunder, Tower of Terror haven’t changed.

I don’t really know why I’m arguing. I don’t really care. I’m not going back to Disney until I have grandkids.
