The message itself, however, is a fundamental part of why the movies are bad. To push the message, they have to ignore human behaviors. This means they have to portray characters who don’t make sense, who do things no human would choose to do, and that creates situations that simply make no logical sense.

Illogical message, means illogical plots, means illogical character development, which means audiences cannot identify with or root for the protagonist, which means bad movie.

The message isn’t the only reason these movies are bad, but the nature of the message they are trying to send makes it extremely difficult to make an enjoyable movie.

For the Prequels, it was no one acting as a filter for Lucas. He's a great "big idea" guy, but once you start getting into the little things he's pretty bad. A lot of what helped the original trilogy was when others would listen to Lucas and then say, "That is stupid" or "This dialogue is horrible."

Lucas' constant meddling with the OT pissed me off more than how bad the prequels were. His addition of "No...noooooo" to Vader when Palps is cooking Luke legit ruins the movie for me. Thankfully I downloaded the despecialized editions years ago and have them to watch whenever I want.

You're right though, Lucas is amazing at the broader picture but you have to have great people around him to reign him in on the small stuff.

I'd still take a purely Lucas-driven sequel trilogy to anything Disney has, or will ever, put out. Such a shame he sold the IP to this monstrosity of a company. The last time I was excited for Star Wars was prior to TFA. It's dead to me now. Thankfully the expanded universe is vast and I can always go there for good stories. I don't give a shite if they're canon or not.

Has a single reply to this thread been in support of the Disney execs? Or are we just strawmanning again?

Why would we support them? They're literally calling us racist and sexist for not liking movies that empirical data shows are bad. This isn't a one time thing either, it's seemingly every time they put something out.

They were already calling people racist before Kenobi even came out. The director of Ms. Marvel said white people are threatened by the show and when it failed, essentially said "please watch my show". They called us sexist because She Hulk was awful. We've literally seen the standards that are causing their movies to fail, to the tune of billions of dollars.

It's not strawmanning when we've had years of data on top of them outright telling us their political point of view is good and we're the bad people. They literally admitted to the SEC in legal documents to their shareholders that they put political ideology in everything and people aren't agreeing with it, so they're losing money. Their stock is down 60% from 2021.

They should be sued by their shareholders for ignoring their fiduciary duty.

Sorry I should have used quotes to make it clearer. I was referencing your post about people coming to this topic to defend Disney, as there are typically 3-4 of us that do argue when there are post about Disney/Diversity.

However, those of us in that group have even posted on here bemoaning Disney execs for this stupidity in this statement. Even the staunchest defender of Disney can not remotely be on board with these quotes. So I'm not sure if you will get the push back from the popular opinion on this topic.

I think that's more the fault of her character than the actress

Which has been pretty much accepted as gospel, I’d say.

Having Rey be a Mary Sue isn’t her fault and she did the best with what she had to work with.

People go off the rails on Rose, OTOH, because it was a shitty character AND a shitty performance.

So if I like extra cheese on my pizza, youre going to only sell a non-dairy pizza from now on, to force me to conform to your stereotype of me?

And charge me for that pizza I wont eat?

And then cancel me when I eat CFA instead?

Colleges have got to return to using SAT/ACT scored admission standards. These people currently in the executive market, used to be the people that asked you if 'you want fries with that'? They were replaced by kiosks. Looks like Disney started hiring them

Female empowerment was never the issue. We've all enjoyed movies with strong female leads - T2, Alien/Aliens, etc. I mean hell - The Wizard of Oz is about a female lead battling a female villain with male secondary characters and everyone was okay with it.

Good writing, good directing, and characters you WANT to see succeed are what matter.

If your only thoughts regarding strong women are:

1. Deconstructing existing male characters, AND/OR
2. Mistake-free, never challenged girlbosses?

Then don't complain when literally NO ONE can relate to your protagonist.

We didn't all like Luke Skywalker because he eventually becomes powerful - we liked him because he was overcoming his own limitations and growing and learning. Just like normal people do.

This sums it up perfectly. Well done

I'll say it. Female empowerment sucks and girl power makes a movie suck.

There’s a difference between “female empowerment” and making every female lead a strong character with no flaws and no arc that supports challenges or changes.

All of their female leads have no real obstacles to hold them back and if anything tries, they get God Mode in every situation.

Shoving shite like that down our throats is getting tiresome and no one wants to see it anymore. Even female viewership is suffering because no woman can relate to female characters with male traits.

Disney doesn’t even understand that 70%+ of super hero audience demos are men.

At this point I find myself passively rooting for both Disney and Star Wars to disappear like Blockbuster.

Other companies are better at what they supposedly do and their competitors do fewer obnoxious things
