yeah i agree with these i guess. refresh my memory if you dont mind - did all of these stories wrap up the same in the show as in the books? Ned and Robb for sure, which i remember. but i cant remember if the rest of those all mirrored the books as well. it's been awhile for me.

Jaimie chooses love. It is where he started, but after his journey he returned to the same love a different man having had his love tested and proved so to speak. A larger than life, virile male character reduced to the humility and self-sacrifice of love.
Its not flashy or world altering, and maybe its not what you wanted, but that is GRRM's M.O.
A lot of wish-casting results in disappointment

The Hound had a wasted arc too. He softened and showed a caring side while still remaining true to himself. In the end, he dies fighting his brother for his own vengence but teaches Arya that vengence will turn her into him and lead to her death.
IMO he had by far the best ending of anybody on the show (that made it to the finale). That show down had been brewing since their childhood and on screed since episode 5. If they didn't let those two battle it to the death then it would have been just another disservice to the fans and everything that had built up. Kind of perfect that he had to face his fears with fire and that being how he had to kill him.

I wish they didn't show him fighting his brother and would have loved to see him standing next to Arya on the ship sailing away. It would have showed he gave up his vengence and walked away to live his life.
Things don't always have a happy ending. I was fine with his and Jaime's ending. Jaime was always going to be with Cersei in the end.

GRRM CLEARLY has something completely different set up for Jaime.
Jamie could not be more different in the books. Easily my favorite book character and my least favorite TV character. He is so incredibly different; I have no idea what they were thinking when they wrote him in the series.

did any of the main characters in GOT end up with a satisfying character arc?
Arya
John Snow
Theon
Sandor
my biggest one is Samwell. that dude getting his D wet is a great completion of the a character arc possible.

But aside from Game of Thrones, I'll throw out Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother.
Marshall is right there beside him, all that shite Lily put him through and he still lets her do her stupid art shite instead of taking the judgeship.

Tyrion was the closest, and I wouldn't say it was satisfying as much as it just wasn't full on disappointing.

For GOT that’s damn tough competition for wasted character arcs.

Steven Seagal’s character in Executive Decision. Taken from us way too soon

It’s when he begins to journey with Brienne that we start to see his human side, a compassionate side, that leads to him losing his sword hand and nearly getting mauled by a bear.
The scene with them in the bath, when he finally retells the story to someone about WHY he's the "King Slayer" and the look on Brienne as she learns more and more.
That one scene, just the two characters, actors performing a fricking MASTER CLASS in expression, inflection, tone, all of it.
Then, suddenly, by the end of S8 he's telling people he never gave a shite about the people he literally killed a king to save?
Yeah, frick those guys who wrote S8.

It ain't hard to watch that series and know the characters that D&D didn't like.
1. Stannis Baratheon
2. Ser Jamie Lannister

Snow's ending made absolutely no sense whatsoever. He was permanently banished to the Night's Watch for the crime of killing a psychopathic queen who had just leveled an entire city, killing thousands, after that city had surrendered itself. Beyond the injustice just to please the few surviving Unsullied (who immediately head back across the Narrow Sea), the absurdity of the punishment is made more plain by the fact that there is no more Night's Watch. The White Walkers had been defeated and the Wall had been destroyed. What purpose does that Order serve in the aftermath of all that has happened?
Not only that, as soon as Grey Worm and his Unsullied had disappeared beyond the horizon, they could have been like: "Sike! Jon, you can stay in King's Landing."

Yeah I refuse to believe that’s the story ending for Jamie. Just seemed so lazy.
