Two episodes in and enjoying it so far. Main guy is definitely a prick but he's a good actor and I like the Syrian partner. Makes for a unique combo which is virtually impossible in the crime drama genre.

Nice, will definitely be watching those.

I can't wait to dip into his background more.

ETA: Editing in case we're not doing spoilers here.

Freaking love that guy. Perfect pairing for Carl.

Good question, OP do you want spoilers here (might help to add a spoilers tag to the OP).

If not, I'm happy to start a spoiler thread (even though I admittedly don't want to know the Dutch movie spoilers, so that may need to be clarified).

If you put "Spoilers start pg. 2" in the Subject then people can still click on the beginning of the thread and get some good information.

Highly enjoyed. That last episode though, I kept saying what has to happen for these dudes to call backup lol.

I'm about half way throuh. Really enjoying it so far. Some good True Detective vibes. The dynamic between Carl and Akram has been great so far.

Watched episode four last night. probably need to rewatch it because I was falling asleep and they were dropping a lot of names I wasn't making connections with

It's kind of blowing my mind that Mrs. Iwy is enjoying this. She wants as little drama and stress free story as possible especially at night/right before bed, but she is locked in on this.

Matthew Goode needs some bigger roles. Dude is just a killer actor.

I enjoyed it as well however, it could have been 7 episodes.

Finished it up. Absolutely loved it. Ended up being right with my suspicions on it. Was a fantastic season and loved how they gradually built the team up throughout the season. Was a really natural progression.

Spoiler

The way they played the scene where Lyle shot Carl, I was certain they were going to make him the shooter that shot Hardy. They made the scenes so identical when he stood over Carl. It was a good callback though for Carl being able to do something this time.

*****SPOILERS*****

Finished and had a lot of the same thoughts as everyone else.

First off, Akram is the GD GOAT. I freaking love that guy, he was so damn good. His lines, his comments, all of it was so good. You could tell this dude was an experienced ace who had seen some shiiiiiiiiit.

I also liked his original partner who got shot. His banter with the main guy and with the ridiculous Annie-haired redhead was pretty funny.

The only thing I didn’t like was the ending. I know I know, I get that shows are based on main characters finding a way and doing whatever it takes, often breaking the rules, but good god, when you find the sheriff or whatever beaten to death and stuffed in the car, time to call EVERYONE. Them moving ahead solo was so absurd.

I didn’t even think about the callback. That’s kind of cool, but still doesn’t makeup for the absurdity of it. I know they mentioned something about it being some type of birdshot, but the dude was shot with a shotgun at like 15 feet. I don’t care what they’re using, his arm would be blown off, not kinda nicked. I also don’t know how the shooter shoots once, apparently barely hits one guy, and then assumes both are dead. I couldn’t figure out how they were gonna resolve that in a believable way, and the way they did actually made me chuckle (though Akram going full John Wick on the dude was pretty sick).

Overall pretty good! Love British detective shows. Just make them nonstop over and over again.

Yea, its a trope I never get. I understand they think she might be there and who knows what kind of shape, so you would absolutely keep searching, but call it in while you're doing it. Simple writing there, just throw in a line for Carl telling Akram to make the call, then you can just cut to the next scene where they are searching through Lyle's living quarters.

I'll give some leeway on this for not exactly knowing how far they were due to how it was shot. Even at 15-20 feet it likely wouldn't have blown his arm off. That was a very big storage container, they were about middle of it maybe a little closer to the door they came in on and Lyle was maybe a step in the door. Shot could have easily been ~10 yards. At that range, while painful as hell, birdshot spreads pretty drastically, especially if they were using some of the smallest pellets, which i'd assume they were based on the birds they were shooting. Some plot armor sure, but it wasn't out of the realm of being realistic at cartain range. Now, Lyle's face would have been damaged a lot more from his shot. That was maybe 5-9 feet from what it looked like.

SPOILER:

Did we miss the resolution of who the shooter was in the beginning of the movie? Was the intent to kill the young cop who was bent?

No, that is the case that Hardy is going to be getting that the chief said was "a case for you", I believe. Assuming we get a second season.

She trusts that he will be able to be level headed enough to investigate his own shooting.

It could have easily been 4-5 episodes instead of 9.

I don’t think anything will ever beat Broadchurch for me in British cop shows and how good that first season was.

We started Broadchurch last week based off this post and finished it yesterday, great show. I don’t know how it never popped up on our radar before.
