Box Office: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ First-Day Ticket Sales Set R-Rated Record, Climb to $8M-$9M

The Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman superhero pic doesn't even open for another two months.

After bemoaning the state of the 2024 box office, AMC Theatres chief Adam Aron finally has something to roar about.
Aron wrote on Wednesday that Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman starrer Deadpool & Wolverine is off to a supersized start and set a new record for first-day advance ticket sales for the country’s largest movie circuits. Tickets went on sale Monday for the Marvel Studios sequel, which officially opens in North America on July 26 following previews on the evening of July 25.
“Some 200,000 movie fans have bought their AMC tickets already. This is more Day 1 ticket sales at AMC than for any other R-rated movie ever,” the colorful CEO wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

None of the parties involved are officially commenting, but all signs indicate that Deadpool & Wolverine will cross $100 million in its debut, a feat no 2024 title has yet achieved as domestic box office revenue slips 20 percent behind 2023 due in large part to production delays tied to the strikes (the industry mantra has become “survive to 25,” and one used frequently by Aron when addressing anxious investors).

They might change Domino's race and kill off one of the most famous white actors with only seeing his face for .02 seconds.
Btw, I don't give a shite about any of it.. I just remembered a few grumblings over the Domino thing.

Rumors of her being in the movie as a cameo at most?
You think Taylor is going to ever even appear in any MCU movie?

FIFY
Not that M-She-U can't still frick it up, but right now the movie is being advertised as "Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman"
Not GRRRRLLLLL POWAH! like the recent spate of movies.
It's almost like there's a correlation there....

The primary villain is literally a girl boss.

That fits, because girl bosses are villains.

I have been watching Jackman as Wolverine for over two decades and I still love the character. Might be the last time to see him do it and it's in a Deadpool movie.

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds could probably print money playing these characters in like 5+ movies.

How hard was it for you to miss the point

I think people need to come to the realization that what we're witnessing is the bigger relegation of the film industry.

They are doing it to themselves. People are lazy and when you allow them to rent the movie two weeks after its theatrical premiere (looking at you, Fall Guy), they aren’t going to watch it in theaters.

I wonder how many millions of that $8-$9 milly was the Disney marketing dept buying up opening day tickets to build the hype and be able to point to this the next 2 months to say how excited people are about it?
*I don’t actually blame them, it’s a solid marketing idea considering they probably get closer to 60% of the opening week showing’s ticket sales back from theaters…

I saw that when I turned on the FiresStick today, however, I’m not mad at it. I was able to rent the Kong/Godzilla movie last Friday for my son and I to watch. When I was his age it felt like it took a year for a movie to go from the theaters to a VCR Tape. It would definitely be a better experience in a theater but a lot of people, especially in 2024 aren’t going to drive 40 miles and pay for four tickets and snacks, especially with kids. We can wait 6 weeks and rent it for $20 instead of paying between $80 to $100 for a family of four.

Sure, but people didn't know it would be available on demand 17 days after opening before it opened. The studio decided that after the lackluster opening.
Your point stands though. Studios have trained audiences to stay home, so they do for all but the "biggest" event films.
