he could beat Roy Jones Jr in a boxing match.
Roy Jones Jr is really old and should no longer be fighting....if he still is.

Most of them are not laudatory.
It's depressing that after Creed's success, Creed II feels like it's just a step above a straight-to-video knockoff, designed to get a little more from the first movie's audience but not to increase it.
The rift is part of the rather transparent and predictable structure of Creed II, which feels more like an indifferent Rocky sequel than a movie with the reinvented dynamism of Creed.
"A chunk of yesterday tryin' to be today," is how Balboa describes himself at one point. He might also be describing Creed II.
Nothing here has been freshly thought out, nor is there a drop of surprise as to the story's trajectory, forcing the viewer to tolerate conventional emotional beats and stale plot contrivances.

Roy Jones Jr
One of the best counter-punchers I've ever seen.
In his prime, you were kidding yourself throwing at his head.

Has anyone seen this move?
Probably on Marty and Doc Brown outside of the film makers.

quote:so if Michael B Jordan's character passed on training for the fight to pursue his life long dream of making it on Broadway or if Creed/Drago Jr. talked about their issues and hugged it out ...then it would be Oscar bait?
Critics are hitting it pretty hard, saying it’s formulaic and predictable

I think that may have been more clever in your head.

He shouldn't be fighting professionals. He can still beat the shite out of actors.
However when Jordan said that, he also said he had been training with Rocky and Apollo so he might've just been high.

quote:Sure. You did say "hitting it hard", but let's see.
Go read the individual reviews and tell me that they’re enjoying this movie.
quote:
A surprise-free movie can be a satisfying one, if the grace notes are played with care. They are in Creed II.
quote:
Creed II is a testament to Stallone's ability to re-write this same movie over and over again and make it work endlessly for audiences old and new.
quote:
Creed II has compelling drama hitting you from all sides.
quote:
What easily could have tarnished what's come before instead movingly builds on it. This is one of the ten best films of 2018, unlikely as that may seem.
quote:
Rocky and Adonis are back for a return match and a solid sequel.
quote:
Creed II falls victim to the sins of sequelitis-it's bigger, louder and more grandiose than its predecessor-yet manages to right itself by not losing focus on the humanity of its central characters
quote:
Go in expecting greatness, and you're likely to be disappointed. Go in expecting a Rocky sequel, and you'll get a surprisingly effective one.
quote:Again, I see no "hitting it hard" going on by the majority of critics. I see a 79% fresh rating with a 7.1/10 overall score. It's not on the level of the first one, but it sounds like it will be a fun Rocky movie.
Dolph Lundgren in close-up, in various moods of granite determination and unexpected emotional thawing, qualifies as this sequel's most legit surprise.

It's got 79% on RT.

I thought it was outstanding. There's a couple of surprises that I didn't see coming.

Enjoyed the film immensely. Followed typical rocky movie formula, but it’s a formula I love and grew up with. End fight is awesome.

I bet if you could talk to every critic, you could use their review of Rocky Balboa as a baseline and predict their review of this movie.
