Of all the things you could've used to make your case for Marty being cooler - gimply playing a guitar at a HS prom doesn't seem to be the winner here...
I'd say banging Sloane on a normal Tuesday after school would be way cooler than that guitar playing experience.

Ferris sang Danke Schoen and Twist and Shout in the Baron von Steuben parade in front of tens of thousands of people.
Interesting fact. When they shot part of it, John Hughes just entered a float in a very real parade and they filmed some of it there (the long shots) in front of very puzzled people and then filmed everything else they needed for the scene on a second weekend under more controlled conditions. The parts where the people on the reviewing stand are confused as hell, flipping through their paperwork trying to figure out what the hell was happening to their parade actually occurred and was pretty funny, so Hughes shot it with actors the next weekend.

Most people will say ferris and I won't argue with it, but I'd like to point out were conditioned to that because we're beaten over the head with "ferris is cool" throughout the movie. The entire movie is just a string of"look how cool he is!" Moments. It's made clear, in fact verbatim from the lady in the school office, that everyone thinks hes cool. Cool cool cool. Bttf never once tried to force feed us how cool Marty is.
