re: Cooler Movie Character: Marty McFly or Ferris Bueller?

Bueller hands down. An entire school/city absolutely love him.

McFly is a nerd who hangs out with a crazy old man.

I've often wondered what happened to them after high school though...

After Marty fixes everything in #3 whats his endgame? Maybe he moves to Seattle to start a grunge band? His dad is now rich thanks to the books so he probably slums it up a bit living the trustafarian lifestyle, no? Maybe rubs elbows with a young Kurt Cobain and really tries to make a go of it.

Ferris, also a rich kid, always seemed like he was destined to drop out of school and start a tech company that would later sell for a billion dollars and then buy a sports franchise and spend the rest of his days trolling the world while also donating massive sums of money anonymously to cancer charities. Basically I always saw him becoming some unholy amalgamation of George Steinbrenner and Mark Cuban.

Coincidentally, I always thought that was the brilliance of John Hughes comedies; the high brow parental centered jokes that kids would find offense to. Ferris was pissed about the computer....but the funny thing is that interface with a modem and terminal time that would allow him to hack his school records probably cost more than a car back then. So his parents more than likely thought they were going above and beyond to give him something super special and he shite all over it.

Which girlfriend? I have a soft (or hard) spot for elizabeth shue..and Mia Sara for that matter, but I'll drop Mia for shue in a heartbeat

Ferris is the guy every guy wants to be. The movie was about what it was like to be him.

Marty was the guy most guys are. His movies were about a situation he got thrown into.

Ferris wins by a long shot but at the same time Ferris is the guy that's go so much going for him all the time that you would eventually root for him to fail. Marty, on the other hand, he's the underdog you root for to win because he's not a Ferris.
