Fired this up today after a night shift. I’d forgotten how much I love it. Now I’m blasting the soundtrack while lifting.

Watching last night I noticed a part I forget about that kills me everytime. After they buy the black lotus they are walking down some stairs and Conan stumbles into some women and says "Your all sluts!" I lol'd paused it called the wife in and made her watch it. I lol'd again and she rolled her eyes.

One of my all time favorites. James Earl Jones is great. The opening scene is freaking amazing.

"Black Lotus....Stygieon. the best."

"Chew slow..This is the good stuff"

Before the "sluts" bit one of the city folk try to sell something to the archer to ward off evil.
High as a kite, he says "I am evil".

Was 11 when it came out and you talk about a bunch of kids loving life in the theater.
I was in college. A lady I worked with asked me to take her 12 year old to see it. I never expected it to be so good. Went and saw it again with guys my own age and they loved it too.

Great lines, but my favorite will always be the simple one uttered by Rexor during the Palace Battle:

"You

Best line in the whole film.

It's honestly one of the most effectively delivered lines I've ever seen in a movie.. And it came from a former football player who said less than 5 words in the whole film.

When he says it, it sums up numerous emotions in one.

He's pissed, he's frustrated, he's shocked, and he's secretly a little scared that a man survived what they did to him and had the cajones and will to go back to the source of his misery.

From the time Arnold drops the cauldren, walks down the stairs with his sword and glares down Rexar and Thorogrim, and that score hits its peak, that's the best 20 seconds of the movie and maybe the best 20 seconds of anything I've ever seen on screen. It's incredible filmmaking

One of the YouTube commenter on that scene really highlights another aspect of Conan that makes it such a good film snd he such a good character.

Conan, even as big and badass as he is, is in no way an all powerful fighting force. He gets hurt, cut, and beaten. He's overmatched in that Palace fight, so he avoids hits then retreats away once the girl if captured.

I know Milius really loved this aspect of the character and he included it greatly in the film.

He also wanted Arnold to look very and had him take him off some mass from his bodybuilding days. He said this is a character who's been a malnourished slave his whole life and should not look like a well-fed, rich Warrior.

In Conan the Destroyer, Arnold is much bigger. That was on purpose as well. Once Milius was not part of the project and Arnold was a star, they wanted him in less clothing and bigger to show off for the cameras. Yet another reason why the first film is so classic.

I encourage every Conan fan to buy the DVD with the commentary by Arnold and Milius. It's as entertaining as it is informative. Arnold sounds like just banged the maid and Milius sounds like he's ready to invade Normandy. It's up there with any great DVD commentary.

Pretty close to perfection for a film.

Hits all the right beats, and meets all of the setup in the right ways.

Dat score.

and of course, one of the best sidekicks of all time — Subatai the Archer.
Played by legendary surfer Gerry Lopez. I have no idea how he got cast in this, but it's perfect.

Pretty sure that was John Milius' doing. Milius was a big surfing fan-- he, of course, made the noted surfing movie Big Wednesday four years earlier, and was responsible for the whole surfing portion of Apocalypse Now.

According to Milius, many of the roles were given to novice actors because their appearances and personalities lined up with the parts. The director cast his long-time surfing buddy Gerry Lopez as Subotai the thief. "I remember when I was casting for this role, all the people who came in looked like Gerry," says Milius on the DVD commentary. "So I thought why not just get Gerry?"

The D’Abo girls are so hot. The other, Maryam, was one of the sexiest Bond Girls ever, (Kara Milvoy) from “The living Daylights”
