Vince Vaughn in True Detective was the only part of Season 2 that was remotely close to enjoyable.

Not saying it's the best, but Patton Oswalt was good in Big Fan as a Finebaum caller type

Steve Martin in A Simple Twist of Fate(Silas Marner), Roxanne, Parenthood, Grand Canyon, Leap of Faith.

What about Peter Sellers? Not really a comedian, more like a gifted actor.

Most of the ones off the top of my head have been named already but I'll throw in Mark Duplass in 'Your Sister's sister". Dude was great in "The League", bonus points: he's a NOLA native.

Honorable mention: George Carlin as Affleck's dad in Jersey girl. Yes, I realize it was a comedy but he had the most serious role in the film. I still play the scene in my head of: Affleck "What do you want me to do?!"
Carlin "Try acting like a father, shite-head."

Not sure if John Goodman counts for everyone, but what about his role in Barton Fink - just fantastic across the board.

Every performance in that film was spot on - the Coens tend to get the best out of almost every actor, almost every film, but this was one of their most surreal (if not THE most surreal) environment, with great performances from Turturro, Goodman, Lerned, Mahoney, Davis, Polito (but Polito always brought it, especially for the Coens).

I don't know. Lloyd Bridges was funny as Hell in the Airplane movies. "Sure picked a fine week to stop sniffing glue!" Robert DiNiro was funny in Silver Linings Playbook.
