if the point is that there are so many conservatives in california, it's completely relevant. there may be so many. but there are SO MANY MORE lefties that it doesnt matter.

In the context of an electoral system? Ok.

This is a movie based on a civil war. The raw numbers matter, b/c this isn't a "winner take all" system that "wastes" all non-winning votes.

But there may not actually be an alliance. Just various factions of states that are all fighting the US government.

They briefly show a map in a reflection on TV where Danes is looking outside. Cali/Texas are dark blue, The southeast is a different shade (must be the Florida alliance), and the NE thru the breadbasket is a teal color. The Dakotas all the west weren't a color at all. Wonder if they'll touch on the dynamics of the factions.

I'm also the guy who's favorite part of Red Dawn was Powers Boothe explaining how the invasion happened and the state of the war so I guess I'm weird in wanting to know all that

Definitely seems like a broken United States with multiple factions and a tyrannical government given the air strikes on US citizens and the president being three term. Interesting know how fricked hp the government is to unite Cali and Texas. Also Florida Alliance is something else to say the least

Doesn't the same radio broadcast that mentions the 3 term president also say something about 19 states have seceded?

He will be a Republican then. You can bet on it.

Just got out of Civil War, man it was an experience. I was still pretty lukewarm on the idea going in but went for Garland. I was still lukewarm on it through like an hour or so, but it kicks into a high gear and is really a wild ride to the end. the sound mixing and score is such a big piece of it. I saw it in Imax and would recommend seeing it if possible in IMAX. there’s character development / exposition some stuff early on I was a bit iffy on and some areas where it feels like they must’ve cut out a storyline or two for time, but otherwise a really good movie.

The movie does walk a pretty tight rope politically for the most part and pretty much leave the specifics alone, to the point where it can be confusing to really understand the world they are in. But I get the reason Garland wrote it that way to try to get that focus on different aspects of the idea of a modern civil war.

The first half is almost like a Buster Scruggs type collection of war vinaigrettes, and there’s some really interesting stuff and intense moments in those, but they really hit the nos once Fat Damon hits the screen through to the final shot of the movie. This was a PSH level supporting character for him, he’s throwing 110 on this one

Also the casting of the actor who plays Pablo Escobar in Narcos in his role in this movie has some almost meta moments / references with his Narcos counterpart after watching it

Hard to gauge in a movie like that, overheard some generally positive stuff from people walking out. They had some sheets for feedback to fill out but I didn’t stick around for that.

Was there a clear "bad side" of the war?

Not really, I think the movie intentionally makes you unsure of who is who and what the cause of the war is.

There may be more background audio stuff I missed that may give more context to that part , but honestly not sure they really defined any position or even who started the war. Lot of the info you get on the war is very passive references and tidbits throughout the character conversations
