I actually met him and talked to him a couple of times back in November on a TCM cruise. Obviously, he's pretty old now and it was harder for him to get around but he still was pretty sharp and came up with some good situational jokes on the spot. He had his family and best friend from college with him. Somewhat sad to see him being rolled around in a wheelchair on deck but he instantly made it funny by whipping his towel at people as he went by.

Here is a fun fact he shared: The house in Christmas Vacation is the same house as the one they used in the Lethal Weapon movies. During the scene he fell into the bushes, he actually landed on the toilet that was leftover from when they were shooting Lethal Weapon 2. I'm guessing it was from the explosion scene.

I've never heard this one, and Robert Downey Sr. died in 2021.

Don't care. Made some all time classics.

You can like a person's movie and also recognize that you'd never want to hang out with them in person.

We're just lucky he didn't sabotage his career too early and we got some classic movies out of him. Imagine if he had burned all his bridges making the first National Lampoon's Vacation movie.

Belushi did something to instigate Murray shortly before the episode and it set off the fight between Murray and Chase.

Apparently that fight happened shortly before they went live. Belushi goaded Murray into picking it to knock Chavey off his game.

What actually set off the fisticuffs was Chase got frustrated with Murray's insults and said "your face looks like something Neil Armstrong walked on".

Gotta admit, that's pretty savage.

Heard this 30 years ago, so might be bullshite. But supposedly he didn't get along with Madolyn Osborne, who played his wife on Funny Farm. He constantly berated her and told her she wasn't good enough to be on set with him. Even tried to get her replaced, but the director liked her and wanted to keep her.

In most cases you can bet on Chevy or Bill independently to be dicks to other people because they think it's funny.

The only thing that would make the story better would be if Dan Aykroyd settled it by beating up both of them.

He must be desperate to do something. He recently made an appearance with Todd Graves at a Cane's in Illinois

Or it could be because Canes had some sort of Christmas Vacation marketing deal and Graves was desperate to get Chevy to help promote it.

And Chevy was desperate enough to do something that he agreed to show up. The local news said he wouldn't even eat the chicken.

your take that 80 year old Chevy Chase is desperate to do something or gives a frick at all is way off base in my opinion. if he went to a Canes promotional deal it's because he just felt like it.

he went because they clearly backed up a Canes truck with a few million reasons for him to do so.

I've worked with both Chevy and Murray - both were just fine on set and quite nice. Hung out with Bill at an event and he's still cracking jokes and himself even at his age and with his health.

But i wouldn't doubt any of the stories except maybe the Downey Jr. story (since as someone mentioned his dad died last year). Working with RDJ now, so may ask him at the wrap party

Even in the late 1970's everyone had heard the stories of Chevy Chase not being the kindest person in the world and that at a time of no internet. So, you know he had to be really bad in real life.

I read somewhere that when he was on SNL back in the good days, he told all the other actors that the only reason SNL was successful was because of himself and that the other actors were shite. Could you imagine Belushi, Ackroyd, Radner and others being told that? He may have had some funny movies but he's always been a narcissist and an a-hole.

My favorite is the story of Chevy and John Landis almost coming to blows. Chevy said something about Landis' insolvent in the Vic Moorow incident before a stunt while filming the Three Amigos.

He has his own show in the early 90s and had Jim Varney on. He insulted him in this clip.

Did he mean that figuratively? Because Robert Downey Sr didn’t die until 2021.

And of course already been mentioned.

I like Chevy Chase the actor. Did anybody watch his interview on that Norm Macdonald interview show? He told a few good stories. If Norm was friends with him he couldn't have been that big of a dick. Even so I don't care I grew on his movies. Nobody else from the old SNL did anything funny on tv like Community (not off the top of my head anyway).
