Need more leading ladies making pro-diversity comments about movie press corps, I guess.

Solid film. Not amazing, but solid

With ticket prices continuing to rise these “biggest opening weekend evar” headlines are kinda meaningless

Pretty much. Saw it tonight, had to spend nearly $20 a piece to see it (Regal's "RPX" experience). Normal tickets were like $15 a piece.

I don't go see movies in the movie theater often, but holy cow... I'd rather use the money towards my own home theater and just wait for them to come out on video.

It beat out other recent major openings, like Guardians 2, Deadpool, It, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Finding Dory.

So it still wrecks among recent releases.

Not a marvel fan but I don’t know what got the nerds so gassed up and evil over this particular movie?

Marvel sticks to their own storyline, but they're not above playing to market forces for additional viewers.

The current play- girl power and feminism.
Captain Marvel is a woman. And the ads aren't always subtle...

That's THEIR emphasis, not photoshopped in.
HER

They ran at least one set of ads where "HER" is the emphasis of every text on the screen.

Combine that with Brie Larson's odd rant that too many movie critics are white men, and they at least poked the bear a few times.

Thankfully, while Marvel isn't above social justice marketing, they don't mess with that in the movies. Haven't seen it yet, but the most I hear is that the soundtrack is 90's girls bands.

Even in nominal terms it is one the best openings for a non Summer/non Holiday movie. Would be interesting to see the legs on this and be able to determine how much is Avengers related. And how much of this is something else.

The only reason I saw it this weekend is because of Endgame.

Amen.

I never go to the movie theater unless I have a gift card or something. Who wants to pay $12+ per ticket to watch a movie that will be $5 or less in a few months - to sit in an audience full of talkers and food smackers?

No thanks, especially to see a run-of-the-mill superhero movie.

You end up spending the same money you would for a nice dinner + drinks to eat stale popcorn and listen to a wildebeest graze and hyenas cackle behind you.

Yea, paid $17 for one IMAX ticket and had a gift card for the other. That’s insane

Top 20 largest opening weekends of all time

9 of them are Marvel movies, 3 of them are DC, and 3 are the recent movies star wars, if you add in the other 2 disney movies (B&B and Incredible 2) then 14 of the 20 are all Disney franchise movies.

Also 13 of the top 20 are comic movies

Being top 20 in 2019 is not a big deal, when 9 on that list are direct shared marvel universe movies IMO

I saw CM and liked it. I didn't see the supposed SJW message and neither did my daughter.

It was a good film, not fantastic but it's in the top 10 MCU films. I dont get offended by their being a female lead or the woman themes they put in there. The cheezy one liners, slow-mo poses in a dramatic scene, and that stupid cat scene offended me more. If they cleaned up the dialogue a little bit I would have rated it higher.

Wow it's amazing how all 10 of the biggest 10 of all time all come from the last 5-6 years!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say in 10-15 years, we will have an entirely new "biggest" top 10 of all time list.

It's almost like some strange economic phenomenon is causing more recently released movies to make more overall dollars than past movies.

It only exists in the minds of people who are looking to be butthurt about something. No different than people who look and see racism everywhere.
