Are you joking? Every song in GoTG is still played on the radio pretty regularly. I guarantee more people my age and younger recognize " come and get your love" and " I'm not in love" than any song sung by fricking Hole. No song from Garbage will ever be labeled a "classic"
We've already established you were born in the 90s so you weren't of age when these bands were huge. People who were of age in the 90s remember those bands easily. thet were everywhere. Hole was friggin' huge. Miss World, Doll Parts, Malibu, Violet (the "Go on take everything" song)... these were big songs. People from that age group know them by instinct.
And Garbage? Jesus, they were massive. Queer, Stupid Girl, #1 Crush, I Think i'm Paranoid, Only Happy When It Rains... these were top 10 hits. Just because it didn't filter down to the day care set doesn't mean they weren't huge, and big era identifiers. And the fact both bands are almost fully restricted to the 90s is a good thing for a soundtrack. You're trying to make it an era identifier, and make it instantly remind people of the 90s, and you don't do that by using bands that bled into the next decades. Radiohead was huge in the 90s too, but they kept getting bigger, so they don't quite work as a 90s band.
GOTG as also a great soundtrack of stuff limited by the 70s. It was an era identifier. I love the Runaways, but I hadn't heard Cherry Bomb in years. Hell, the last time I heard Blue Swede's Lost in a Feeling was when it was in Reservoir Dogs, which also used 70s identifiers.

Smack My Bitch Up is the best driving song ever. I will end up going 100 on the freeway if I let myself get into the song. It is so f'n perfect.
Oh, and I'd love a little Salt n Pepa on the soundtrack. Some "Shoop" would be terrific. That would work well for an action sequence, too.

quote:Plenty of people know this song, but yeah. If they wanted to go for 90's alt rock chick bands, Bikini Kill or Veruca Salt would have been better.
The Breeders "Cannonball" was an awesome song with a chick singer that everyone that was in college in the 90s would recognize in a heartbeat, but I doubt anyone else knows exists.
I did like Garbage though. Her newer stuff is decent too.

I wasn't born when any of the bands in gotg were big either fool

If you think that than you're gonna be dissapointed in the soundtrack

So what 3 out of the 24 songs played in gotg 1 and 2 are 70s identifiers? Yeah, I can see that same ratio in Captain Marvel.
I just think you're crazy if you don't think the soundtrack will be mostly 90s pop hits from groups like TLC and No Doubt that appeal to a much larger range of people than garbage and Hole

I feel like the controversy surrounding this film is overblown. Disney should've nipped Larson's virtue signaling in the bud. It's obvious that this film carries feminist vibes, but the marketing doesn't really beat us over the head with it.
The reception to the film thus far seems pretty fair too. This doesn't appear to be a TLJ or Black Panther situation where an agenda seems to be the primary driver for high review scores.

People tend to think that everyone listened to the music that they and their friends listened to.

Found an Article that actually confirms some of the tracks in the movie:
Salt-N-Pepa/En Vogue – ‘Whatta Man’
Elastica – ‘Connection’ (Huge props for the deep cut here!)
Garbage – ‘Only Happy When It Rains’
TLC – ‘Waterfalls’
Nirvana – ‘Come As You Are’
No Doubt – ‘Just A Girl’
R.E.M – ‘Man On The Moon’
Hole – ‘Celebrity Skin’
LINK
I've got no complaints so far.
A couple of semi-confirmed from Tunefind:
Ready to Go - Republica (I was hoping for this one)
I'm So Free - Beck (Another quality Deep Cut)

Man I guess I am just not going to be into this soundtrack. This seems like a huge dud compared to the GotG movies' soundtracks.

how did this thread turn into such a discussion about the soundtrack?
other than GotG, in which the music was a party of the story, has anyone cared about the soundtrack for a Marvel movie?

And the only reason anyone cared in GotG is because it was an integral plot device.

Just trying to look forward to some part of this movie. Based on GotG, I thought they'd at least nail the music. Seems like an integral part of a movie set during a specific time period.

Have fun.
Hope you enjoy it.
I’m passing for now.
With how rarely I get to go to the movies, this one doesn’t really interest me.
I find that sad though since I always wanted Captain Marvel in movie form.
She was one of the first characters I brought up way back when when they were talking about adding a female bruiser.
Everything I have read just says that Larson’s portrayal is boring and wooden.
Kinda ruined my interest.

Honestly, the only reason that I am going to see it in theaters is because from the reviews that I have seen say that it ties in to Infinity War and has a very important credits scene. If not for that I would be watching it at home later.
Am excited about the 90's music though..queue soundtrack talk again
