That's the point. I'm a little surprised that this board hates this episode, but it appears that yall aren't getting it. They're clearly making fun of the fact that Hollywood keeps doing remakes and changing the lead actor to some minority figure and it ends up sucking arse. The acting is intentionally awful because shes playing a role that she shouldn't be. I thought this board would eat that up.
as I noted above, I agree with this take

Bête Noire
Apparently there are two versions of this, with the Bernie’s / Barnie’s debate flipped, and whichever one you get is random.

Nice.

I recently re-watched Playtest

One of the scariest episodes in the series, to me.

boy that is....quite the leap. Are you basing this on anything from the writers or just speculating? Because I don't think that was their intention AT ALL. I think their intention was to gain 5 woke points and get e-pats on the back by blue haired bloggers for taking the role of a straight white man and replacing it with a lesbian black woman. Nothing really deeper to it than that.

If we're supposed to buy Brandy's totally awful stiff as a board acting, then why did the episode go out of its way to show us how well prepared she is? She reads the script once and has every scene and line memorized. Let's not forget the reason she was cast is because she's a current A-list celeb coming off several blockbuster movies. This isn't a girl that is brand new and simply doesn't know how to act.

Through all the episodes except Hotel Rev because everyone keeps saying how much it sucked so I skipped it. Callister was freaking great. Just love the entire concept behind it. Can’t imagine being trapped by myself in a never ending work situation like the Plemmons character. Plaything was really good but the ending fell flat. Enjoyed the story. Eulogy was sad but Giamatti’s performance was quite good. If I had to rank them.
Callister
Plaything
Common People
Eulogy
Bete Noire.

I guess I’ll eventually watch Hotel Rev.

For me she thought it was Barnie’s, but it revealed to “actually” be Bernie’s.

Curious what posters might have gotten the other version.

I haven’t met anyone that had the original hat as Bernie’s. Hmmm? Wondering if Netflix is just effing with us.

Thought it was a really good season overall. Best one in years… Eulogy and Plaything stood out in particular.

I didn’t think Hotel Rev was completely awful like most on here. It was just very slow and didn’t keep my interest. The concept fit in with the show’s themes though.

Mine started as Bernie's and then flipped to Barnie's.

I even paused mid episode and went back to the beginning to view hat in opening scene because I thought I was losing my mind when they were googling it to settle the debate and it said Barnie's.

Mine was opposite. Was originally Bernies in the beggining when you see the BFs hat and she believes it be so then is proven wrong and its changed to Barnies.

I went back to beginning and hat still said Bernies. Above poster makes it seem he rewound and it was changed even when rewinding?

Common People - Was a solid BM episode.
Plaything - was very fun. I liked the concept.
Eulogy - Paul Giamatti crushed this, which was heavily reliant on his dialogue. The whole episode was just him telling stories and trying to remember those stories, but he did such a good job.

Haven't seen the others, but will probably skip Hotel Reverie.

I like the very broad, overarching general idea of: "company has a way to put a real person "into" an old movie" but there was just so much that was crappy about the episode itself. I wouldn't call it the worst episode of the series like many people are but it's undoubtedly the worst of this season.

I feel Issa Rae's character was supposed be wooden, seeing how she was just dropped into this AI world with no warning. Maybe I'm giving her too much credit.

You're definitely giving her too much credit. To be sure, she was miscast AF but to be miscast AND turn in a God-awful performance? That's the only thing she did that took talent.

I wonder where they got their inspiration for this?

I’ve watched all except the USS Callister sequel. Do I need to go back and watch the original? I remember the concept and generally how it ended, but not specifics. Or does the sequel give a bit of a recap?

Late answer, but there is a recap at the beginning of the episode.

Idk about "NEED" but I rewatched the original before the new one and was definitely glad I did.
