I'm Ok with the GPS scene , they were driving slow enough to make it somewhat believable for movie standards. But agree about running blind folded through the woods, especially little kids. The rapids scene is worse. There is no way she would have conveniently found both kids in that rough of water.

This movie was boring. I'm glad they included the GPS and Parking Sensor journey to the grocery store because it was the only scene I found entertaining.

This is a good idea for a movie but I felt the execution was poor.

My advice to any studio creating these movies: Show the damn monsters and come up with a better ending for these shite shows.

A Quiet Place is far superior to this film. The Last Jedi was better than this film.

It was a pretty bad movie.

I wouldn't say it was pushing a PC thing.

But, it did sort of add to the mental illness stigma thing.
Everyone who is mentally ill now tries to kill others?
That's just great.

I don't think they are trying to kill others. They think what they see is beautiful so they want others to see it too.

Outside of that one guy intentionally John Malkovich's character, I don't remember any of the other crazies trying to kill anybody.

I really don't understand how some thing (be it a movie, TV show, restaurant, song, whatever) can just explode and take the nation over somtimes seemingly at random for no real reason at all. I finally got around to watching this shite yesterday and was floored that THIS is what everyone and their mother is raving about.

The story was relatively boring, the main plot is an exact replica of the happening, the ending a major letdown, it's not scary (which isn't a problem in general, but people are hailing this as being scary as frick), etc. IDGAS about the supposed liberal bias some of the looney tunes ITT are stuck on, I just dont' think it was a very good movie period. It wasn't necessarily BAD or awful, but why in the hell is it getting all the pub and press it is? I don't understand.

The point is for the audience to experience what the characters experience. This makes you connect with the protagonist

Except for the whole fact that he was proven right in the end and ultimately sacrificed himself to save Mallory and the kids.

Oh, and let’s not for get that the male lead is military and is the purest character on the movie. Because SJWs just love the military.

Some of you guys stretch really hard to be offended. It’s almost as if ....

Except, of course, that the leader of the compound was an old white dude named Rick.

I haven’t seen it, but seems like a knock off of a quiet place except with sight.

Why do people keep talking about "A Quiet Place"? This movie was "The Road" on a river.

I still don't know why BB isn't getting called out more for being a direct ripoff of the happening, which isn't even that old at this point

quote:

In New York City's Central Park, people begin committing mass suicide.

quote:

the behavior quickly spreads across the United States.

quote:

triggering a[n] attack, signaled by what appears to be wind blowing

quote:

Elliot and Alma have adjusted to their new life with Jess as their adopted daughter.

So let's see, we have:

-mystery thing that makes everyone commit suicide
-soon spreads to affect the mainstream
-wind blowing signifies the thing is around
-main crew finding a safe shelter with another group
-kids get adopted in the end

I mean FFS the only real difference is in BB they have to be blindfolded. It's a complete ripoff.

This movie just proves how far Netflix has come when reaching an audience, and how little content is out there right now.
And the power of Fads in the age of the Internet....

Netflix used meme power to turn this into a fad/phenomenon.

So they both deal with an unseen force causing people to kill themselves.

Outside of that, they aren’t terribly similar. The Happening is one of the worst movies ever made; Bird Box was pretty good.

Yep, Netflix is on another level right now when it comes to customer engagement.

This movie was just hokey enough to go viral during a period where everyone is glued to their phones sitting at home bored out of their minds.

with wind signifying the force is around, where they hole up with other strange survivors in a house, where they adopt a kid in the end...

I mean it's extremely similar, I'm not sure how you could argue otherwise.

The world is a violent and dangerous place. Home is a sanctuary where the violence and danger are kept at bay except when invited in; either through the people you encounter or the media you consume. The insane in the movie are metaphors for people who accept that the world is violent and dangerous and use this acceptance as carte blanche to exploit using violence or the threat of violence, thus making the regular people see the truth. If we re-engage with the community around us, we can create a harmonious world free from violence and threat and be content without living in constant fear.

Not all the time in Bird Box. And, given the constraints of an unseeable force, it only make sense that wind would be the audience tell.

Where the hole up in a strangers house

It’s an apocalypse movie. Holding up with strangers is what you do.

,

Again, apocalypse movie. Of course adults are going to take kids in.

Are you suggesting Bird Box is a rip-off of The Stand? Because this all happens in The Stand as well.

All apocalypse movies are going to have similar plot points. The execution of Bird Box though was so much better than The Happening.
