You are still "quarantined" from the outside world. They just give them a bunch of games (cards, board games ect.), they get some alcohol every night (but still not a whole lot), and they aren't filmed 24/7.
And most of all, they aren't scheming against one another, so it is more of a vacation for everyone there.

If you're a have-not then you can only eat slop or the specialty food for that particular week. Last week the specialty food was berries and this week it was popcorn and peanuts. Yes they eat it breakfast lunch and dinner and for a week straight. They're allowed to mix condiments into it as well (apparently it still tastes awful though)
Frank described it as Oatmeal mixed with protein powder.

They don't do it for viewers anymore. It's just more of a tradition thing. And you're crazy if you think you can last a week on popcorn and peanuts.
