Trying to watch a few horror films this month in the spirit of Halloween. In doing so I’ve just discovered quite possibly the most fun zombie movie ever made, The Return of the Living Dead. From the opening crawl stating that “This is a true story, the names of the victims are real, etc.” to a chick being full frontal for damn near the entire runtime it’s just a fun time. Can’t believe I’d never watched it before now. New rankings for me are -

1. The Return of the Living Dead
2. Dawn of the Dead (1978)

There are some newer ones that are noteworthy as well, such as 28 Days Later and the Dawn remake. What is your favorite zombie flick?

I generally don't care for the conventional choices.

I like Night of the Comet. Sue me.

Return of the Living Dead is great and the sequels are solid....for what they are.

Easily 78 Dawn of the Dead.

I'd add

Dawn Remake
Zombii 2
NotLD '68 and 90
Day of the Dead
Dead Alive
Re-animator - If you count it

Dead Snow and its sequel for sure. Shaun of the Dead and Fido as well. There are some little known films that meander off the "quality" path, but I enjoy them. Dance of the Dead, Dead and Breakfast, and The Horde.

That movie is a chore to sit through....but man, those last 20 minutes or so makes it totally worth it. One of my favorite endings, too.

Shaun of the Dead is my personal #1.

I also finally watched Train to Busan this past Sunday and it is top notch. I highly recommend it.

The only way to really do a zombie movie. Zombies arent scary.

The thing people really like about zombie movies, is the apocalypse part. It sets your imagination ablaze to think that tomorrow you could wake up and not go to work and take your neighbors hummer and drive to the mall and make that your new homebase. Its a fun thought.

Also the guilt free nature of being able to indiscriminately bash in the heads of things that look human.

That being said my favorites are Zombieland, Shaun, and DotD (2004)

Is this even a zombie movie though? The people aren't dead, and you don't have to decapitate or shoot/spear/stab them in the head to kill them.
