Beginning of the End for Netflix? Netflix to start targeting older users.

“Netflix has become a victim of its own success,” says Richard Broughton, media analyst at Ampere. “It is so mass-market in many of its more established territories, that it has largely signed up all the young audiences already.”

...the real opportunity is among those aged 55 to 64, who have put their tech-wariness aside to give streaming a go to alleviate lockdown tedium. Between the third quarter of 2020 and the end of March the proportion of internet-connected people in this age group who have subscribed jumped from 38% to 50%.

Broughton said research into Netflix’s commissioning strategy showed it was giving more weight to crime and documentaries, popular with an older demographic, rather than fantasy, action and horror.

I think the majors getting their own streaming services was the beginning of the end.

who are the majors? Because the Network channels streaming is pretty bad. HBO Max is better but that's it.

I'd like to see a streaming service that is mostly full seasons of tv shows from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Thought that would be Peacock or Paramount+ but incomplete seasons of tv shows are a deal breaker.

Investors care about subscriber numbers, so Netflix is trying to appeal to more subscribers.

Netflix content is so bizarre sometimes and left and their company is so hard left I really don't see them having success.

My entire homepage is filled with weird suggestions and I never watch any of it. Once I'm done with a few shows I'm done with Netflix.

Wait. Is this article arguing that it’s the “beginning of the end” for NF because it’s targeting an older since it basically has all the young people signed up already? Increasing its customer base is a sign that it’s over?

I could see if it was hemorrhaging it’s customers. But it’s not. How stupid is that argument?

When it’s all said and done PlutoTV will be the king of them all.

Netflix has never made a top tier series ever. Making 1 or 2 great seasons of a series does not count

All of the big services are left wing. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney, HBO, Apple, Peacock, Paramount, and on and on. They all push progressive stuff which alienates older users.

What would truly be newsworthy is if one of them decided to go in a different direction. Not conservative mind you as there isn't enough content there.

More like a return to "mainstream" content of the past. Meaning they aren't going to constantly push far left dogma, BLM, and so forth.

There is definitely a big market looking for that.

My biggest issue with Netflix is that they won’t let you rate movies or shows because of that nasty fat whore, Amy Schumer.

And you just had to make it political

"What are you talking about, movies/tv/shows aren't trying to be political at all, it's just entertainment. Why do you have to make it a political thing?"

They should just start streaming porn with a “story”. They’re pretty much already doing that without the full penetration. Their most talked about shows are sexy/life and the one a while back called 365 something. Basically hot dude bangs hot chick the end

How did you miss all of this troubling data?
quote:

once booming markets that have begun to stagnate.

quote:

$20bn (£14.5bn) fall in the company’s share price after Netflix missed its first quarter new subscriber target by 2 million.

quote:

Netflix is set to report the smallest growth in subscribers in a decade next week

quote:

This unprecedented “pull forward” in new subscribers – those who hastened plans to sign up – explains why its rate of growth this year is so worryingly anaemic.

Not signing up new customers, means generating new content on a fixed or possibly decreasing income. Soon prices will go up, offset by cancellations. OPs statement is justifiable with this data
