She enters the movie singing that classic Disney song where she talks about living in a “little town” full of “little people.” She think she’s better than them?

Eh. The townspeople basically shunned her for liking books.

“But behind that fair facade
I'm afraid she's rather odd
Very different from the rest of us
She's nothing like the rest of us
Yes, different from the rest of us is Belle!”

They are no saints.

As for falling in love with the Beast, yeah it’s basically Stockholm syndrome. Not great.

I’m just glad that Cogsworth, Lumiere, Mrs Potts, Chip and the dog ottoman get released from the curse in the end. They are the real protagonists. They manipulated the Beast and Belle to fall in love so that they could become real people again and it worked.

Agreed. And in a weird twist, her sister Anna may be one of the best princesses for little girls to look up to. Loyal to family, incredibly brave, resilient in the face of obstacles, sometimes proud but also willing to admit her mistakes. She's nieve but thats to be expected being locked away from the outside world most of her life.

Her, Rapunzel, and Moana are exemplary Disney princesses. Much more so than Ariel or Belle.

Elsa is an ice witch who tries to murder her sister and almost destroys an entire kingdom via climate change.

Did they shun her before or after her snobbish attitude towards the town came out?

I'm going purely off a memory from 30 years ago, but I never thought Gaston was bad enough to be a villain.

She just wanted to be left alone at her compound deep in the woods and far away from other people. Sounds like she had the right idea to me

t the same time, Gaston was willing to battle and potentially be killed by a giant monster just to prove his worth to Belle. His only real flaw was not being interested in her hobbies. He comes across as a self-centered guy who wants Belle’s attention and affection

His clearly stated intention is to keep her as a trophy.

Ariel is worse.

Ariel is in a class all on her own. She sold out her entire kingdom (and quite frankly the world) for a hunk of man meat she never even met. She fully deserved to join Ursula’s garden. Belle on the other hand sacrificed herself for others. Ariel is unquestionably the worst Disney Princess, but at least Ursula is a top 5 Disney villain to compliment her.

I mean, even if Belle is the best Disney princess, he’s got a point.

He comes across as a self-centered guy who wants Belle’s attention and affection without having much interest in getting to understand her wants, needs, or desires. At the same time, she doesn’t exactly seem willing to help him know that or understand any of those things about him, or even the Beast, either.

Guys, big fan of Gaston here, but let’s not forget Gaston tried to get Belle’s father thrown in the clink simply for refusing to marry him. Gaston was a world class a-hole.

Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid have one glaring thing in common that was an easy fix in the writing room. Ariel is 16 and Belle is 17. There wasn’t a single person working on these movies for over 2 years that didn’t think about at least making them legal?

I mean, a big step up from Snow White who was 14.

But Elsa couldn’t control things and was emotionally abused by her parents. Ariel on the other hand was just a vindictive selfish bitch. Like her father puts on an entire concert in her honor, but hey can’t be bothered with that. frick off Dad! Sorry you lit millions on fire for that and I embarrass you and Sebastian big time on the world stage, but I have bigger things to worry about like finding a fork and getting some dick.

No, Ariel is in a category of her own.

Maybe it’s Belle. Villain may be a stretch but she’s definitely no hero-princess. She’s actually a terrible person.

That’s because up through 90% of production, Elsa was the villain. The director decided to make her a “good guy” after hearing “Let It Go”. The team at Disney realized that the audience would root for a villain with that song, so they had to figure out a way to change things around so Elsa wouldn’t be the villain. However, they couldn’t fix everything and make the story still make sense. That’s why Elsa comes across as terrible and the movie in general isn’t very good.
