They should have made a stand alone Batman movie that sets up his distrust for Supes and sets the new character apart from Nolan and Bale.
Would've been fine with me, but DC was probably uncertain about another stand alone Batman movie so soon after the Nolan trilogy just ended.
I agree about Wonder Woman and superman needing movies before doing this. DC is obviously rushing rather than take its time like Marvel did. I assume DC is worried the superhero movie craze will fizzle before it has a chance to cash in if it waits too long.

The Nolan Batman was a different universe. Superman couldn't have stood idly by while Bane etc held a city hostage with a thermonuclear device for weeks at a time. Batman also retired at the end.
As terrible as the ending of TDKR was - you have to honor it.

Not going to happen. And again, this is why the heads of WB and those in charge of the DC universe are fricktards.
Respect the fans and the comics and you'll make money and slowly draw in the audience.
shite on the Fanbase, throw the source material out the window, and claim you're worried this won't be enough of a general appeal cash cow movie and that's your whole goal? Good luck. I'll still go see it, but DC is making some retarded decisions from marketing to casting to universe building.

they should have waited for this movie. Done another batman movie with someone not named affleck. introudec other villains like firfly , black mask, grundy. Done a sequel to MOS with braniac or metallo.
The plot of this movie should have been like the cartoons. Batman and superman meet up as clark ken at wayne firt. have lex work with joker. Then other villians hired by luthor to kill batman. superman controlled by Ivy to kill batman.

DC is ttrying for a smash broad appeal hit by hiring Zack Snyder to direct a controversial Superman sequel that simultaneously reboots Batman after a very recently and very successful trilogy,
or... Avengers sequel that inexplicably pulls Iron Man out of retirement and instantly replenishes his recently destroyed arsenal of suits
quote:
introduces Wonder Woman, founds the justice league, eisenberg as Luthor, has Doomsday created out of Zods body by Luther,
introduces Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, Spade as Ultron has the Vision created out of an Infinity Stone by Ultron.
quote:
introduces possibly Darkseid, andhas BBatman and Superman fighting each other.
introduces the Infinity Gauntlet, and has Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch fighting Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Thor, and Black Widow. ...and Iron Man fighting Hulk. ...and the Vision fighting Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor, while they fight Quicksilver...
And... suddenly Hawkeye has a family and Hulk and Black Widow are dating.
You can really make these movies seem convoluted when you put your mind to it.

DC will fail and marvel will laugh all the way to the bank

Batman is my favorite superhero, and I think Affleck looks like he will be fine in the role. It's just everything else that looks less than great.
Seems like it is trying to do too much, plus the marketing has been bad. The resolution of the conflict that serves as the very title of the film was spoiled in the second trailer.
I appreciate not wanting to do an origin movie for every new character, especially since Batman is so well known, but this movie just seems all over the place. And I thought MOS had way too much CGI. I'm just not pumped for this, and I think I have seen the last seven Batman movies in the theater (Batman 1989 and everything after).

I completely agree with this. Which is why I said they needed a new movie to set up this BBatman as different.
However, superman wasn't a hero yet at that point in Batman's life, as evidenced by the older Bruce in the new movies.
It's too bad Nolan didn't have the nuts to kill him. That would've been amazing.

Don't be difficult.
Me and alot of posters here have problems with Im3 and avengers tbdoesnt change the fact that Marvel has a success universe already set up and even with some subpar things going on, they are still making quality movies and have enough credit to suffer through a misfall or two. All of the main heros in avengers two had a few stand alone movies. The audience can just accept they're there.
The point is DC hasn't built that universe yet. So it's hard to do all of thate.

This is likely a billion dollar property.

no but you can make them on Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger budgets.

The guy reporting that WB is nervous also said with a 100% guarantee that jordan gordon levitt would play Batman. His sources are terrible, just as Bill "Jet" Ramey has pointed out. The internet loves to identify something and then hate it all together.
I'm pumped for the movie and the simple of idea of expanding on a superhero universe where consequences and death happen. So what if its not every fanboy's exact depiction, big deal. The marketing has been atrocious, but that doesn't mean the movie is crap.

I agree with Fewer Kilometers. This isnt Marvel nor their system so people are bucking it. So many Marvel phase 2 movies were horrible. They lost Whedon and Wright because they are done with being put into a box. Those movies have become so cookie cutter and boring. GIVE US A TRUE VILLAIN MARVEL! please.
I would give a nut for Doom. not Doom in FF, but a universe wrecking and earth shattering Doom. but alas, frick fox.
Anyway, let's see what happens here. Personally, this Batman seems fricking awesome to me. It looks like this movie will have focus problems, but we will see. It really seems they are about to launch the series into the new 52 justice league arcs, which have been fantastic. so ill hold out hope.
i will concede that if they dont put other directors on their projects, they could fail miserably. i dont get why snyder has to direct everything. i like how marvel pulls new and upcoming directors and gives them a shot.

I finally got around to watching Iron Man 3 this weekend. I couldn't believe how bad that movie is. I mean some parts had me busting out laughing, and not in a good way.

easily the worst Marvel movie by a mile. and like Fewer Kilometers pointed out, Avengers 2 just completely ignored that entire movie. yet its a shared universe. Marvel has done some great things, but they arent perfect either.

This board is starting to suck with all the pessimism and negativity towards this movie. They want it to be terrible so they can gloat until the end of time.
I don't want it to be terrible. I was always far more of a DC reader and want them to be just as successful as Marvel Studios. Almost all of my favorite comic characters are in DC comics I simply haven't liked the most recent WB/DC movies enough to get all that excited for the way they are going about things.
If I was going to rank the 12 WB/DC movies made since 2000 (this leaves out Red 1/2 since WB didn't distribute them)
The Dark Knight
Watchmen
Batman Begins
V For Vendetta
The Dark Knight Rises
The Losers
Constantine
Man of Steel
Superman Returns
Green Lantern
Jonah Hex
Catwoman
After those top 4 I'd rather watch every single MCU movie given the choice between that or DC movies aside from Incredible Hulk which would be just behind Dark Knight Rises. The fact that I'd rather watch Marvel flicks over the DC characters I much prefer gives me a big fat sad.

Avengers sequel that inexplicably pulls Iron Man out of retirement
He ends IM3 by saying he'll always be Iron Man. The only big change is that he takes the reactor out of his chest. He doesn't visibly retire, he leaves a note to the kid that says Iron Man "will be back." He's pausing, not retiring. And he's talking to Banner at the end, not pulling away from the Avengers.

nstantly replenishes his recently destroyed arsenal of suits
Tony's superhuman ability to create a ton of suits has already been revealed. This isn't a new rule. It's convenient at heck, but not sudden.
quote:
introduces the Infinity Gauntlet
A version is shown in Thor. Thanos is already revealed, and they show everything in Guardians. We do not, for the first time, get a glimpse of some bigger play in AoU. We've already been introduced to this whole narrative.
Plus, Marvel is doing the smart thing by giving fans the tools to tell non-fans about all this stuff. They are relying on that, and encouraging it, that's how the Gauntlet ideas have worked.
quote:
Hulk and Black Widow are dating.
Nope. Not even close.
You're trying to make something more convoluted than it is.

whats really ironic about all this is the comics universes are almost exactly opposite. for decades marvel has been the grittier of the two companies across the board with more street level, "hardcore" stories. while DC has largely been more fantastical and not nearly as gritty. funny how the cinematic universes developed.
