I actually think Keaton is the GOAT Bruce Wayne.

This!

I may be in the minority but I have Afleck as the best Batman due to size and intimidation factor. He kicked arse in the warehouse scene.

I still remember everyone losing their shite when Keaton was cast as Wayne/Batman. It made the turmoil over the casting of Ledger as Joker pale by comparison.

I like the Nolan version better, but Burton's was great.

'89 was a great summer for movies ( some would say the best summer ever). Batman and Last Crusade (IMO, the best of the Indiana Jones movies).

It's all personal opinion, but I prefer the 89 version.

More stylish.

There's a YouTube channel dedicated to the 1989 batman. It has all kinds of original featurettes and commercials and even has a Michael Keaton letterman appearance the day before the movie came out.

Apparently the dark knight comic kind of reinvigorated the character and then Hollywood saw they could capitalize on it.

It's amazing looking back, that the batman producers were the same production team as Rain Man. In other words, they came at the movie from a high quality, high production drama standpoint and not how shite is made today, where it's all about commercialization and sequels and Disney etc. etc.

Obviously they did it to make money, but It seems like it was a small group that wanted To find the best filmmaker for the job, then handing the project over to him, isntead of the property coming first, then a giant corporate team just finding a warm body to get it made and released to cash in, then on to the next one,

That was a huge get for Letterman. Letterman's close friendship with Keaton got him on Late Night instead of the hour earlier Tonight Show or Arsenio or Sajak for his first Batman appearance. Letterman promoted it with "Weee've got Batman."

As for the professionalism of the producers, there was a matter of luck involved. There was the consideration to go Adam West with Ivan Reitman and Bill Murray. Keaton talked about the DC Fundamentalists being against him, but there was a huge chunk of audience that only knew the West Batman and expected a return to that on the screen.

Agreed. Affleck's Batman is finally one who legit looks like he can kick arse. As much as I love '89 and the Nolanverse, neither Keaton nor Bale looked like they could whip arse in Gotham.

Letterman and Keaton went way back. Even when his career slowed in the 90s and early 00s, he was still on the show somewhat regualary, just because he was such a good guest.

You could tell how pumped Keaton was on that one show though, he was about to cash in big time and was the star (or costar, kind of) in the biggest Blockbuster of the year

I still remeber being 9 standing in a long line at Prien Lake Mall in Lake Charles with my dad in the rain waiting to get in to see this. It was an experience I won’t forget.

I remember walking out of the theater and seeing the people that were lined up waiting to see the late show. My favorite Superhero movie until TDK. It’s the only one of the pre-Nolan Batman movies I can still watch. Kim Basinger

Beetlejuice was the worst and I’m including Cooney and Kilmer. I think people that say that was the best batman are caught up in Nostagia and must have been young when they saw it. I don’t even know where to begin on how bad this movie is. Well, I should say it’s better than the Burton’s sequel. It’s caught somewhere in between trying to be dark, edgy, and mysterious and just just up cheese. Bring on the downvotes but it’s a bad movie and has aged even worse.

Sounds silly but this movie was a benchmark in my life. The opening title sequence and the music alone was like nothing 10 yo me had ever seen before.

And yes the marketing and merchandising was phenomenal. I ate Batman cereal every day until it was discontinued.

Forgot about the cereal. I did the same thing. Outside of Star Wars, it's hard to to remember a more hyped or better marketed movie. The Prince videos were on MTV or VH1, E! had Batman updates constantly.

So many different companies had rights to different versions of the Batman image from comic books that there were no end of toys and apparel in every store you went to.

I also had my Batman birthday party that year.

Was one of the few times they showed a first run movie at the Barksdale AFB theatre. I remember being so hyped up all day and the movie did not disappoint. When they showed the Batwing for the first time and a 100 adolescent boys lost their shite will always be one of my favorite theatre experiences.
