Would be super impressive if Oppenheimer could pull off that strong of a second weekend.

Tough going up against Barbeneimer but I think it's safe to say people are about done with the Mission Impossible movies.

Yeah, that genuinely shocked me. That's an incredible hold

'Fallout' made almost $800 million. It just went up against an absolute buzzsaw in its second weekend.

As crazy as it sounds, the word "incredible" is an understatement in this particular case. $300 million domestic is now in play.

Finally got around to seeing Barbie this weekend. Seeing Oppenheimer next weekend. We went today at 1:00 pm and the theater we were in was about 3/4 of a way full for it (one of four screens dedicated to Barbie it looked like).

Box Office: ‘Barbie’ Scores Massive $93 Million, ‘Oppenheimer’ Adds Huge $46 Million in Second Weekends

quote:

After two weeks on the big screen, “Barbie” has generated $352 million in North America to stand as the fourth-biggest movie of the year. Globally, the Warner Bros. film has grossed more than $750 million and ranks as the third-largest release of the year.

Meanwhile, “Oppenheimer” has earned $174 million at the domestic box office and $400 million at the global box office. It has already outperformed the lifetime grosses of two prior Nolan efforts, 2020’s “Tenet” ($365 million) and “Batman Begins” ($373 million).

quote:

“Haunted Mansion” debuted in third place with $24.6 million from 3,700 North American theaters. That’s a decent result for a kid-centric tentpole, as well as a Halloween film that opened in July. Except Disney spent $150 million to produce the film and tens of millions on promotional efforts. So, the film has a high bar to reach profitability, at least in its theatrical run.

quote:

“Mission: Impossible” took the No. 5 spot on domestic charts with $10.2 million from 3,191 venues in its third outing. The $291 million-budgeted blockbuster has stumbled in the wake of “Barbenheimer.”

quote:

WKND #BoxOffice JUL 28-30:

#Barbie    $93M/$351.4M
#Oppenheimer $46.2M/$174.1M
#HauntedMansion    $24.2M
#SoundOfFreedom $12.4M/$149M
#MissionImpossible    $10.7M/$139.2M
#TalkToMe $10M
#IndianaJones    $4M/$167.1M
#Elemental    $3.4M/$145M
#Insidious $3.2M/$78.1M
#SpiderVerse $1.4M/$378.8M

Huge weekend for both movies. Barbie is gonna easily cross $1 billion and Oppenheimer is gonna make over $500 mil as a 3 hour rated R biopic, which is crazy.

If Chris Nolan didn't have blank check offers before, he certainly will now

my 14-year-old wanted to see Barbie yesterday afternoon with friends. Every theater in my county (8 of them) was sold out of Barbie so we had to get the last 4 tickets for a showing today at 3pm.

Greta Gerwig’s #Barbie    has officially hit 1 BILLION at the global box office.

THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE’ and ‘BARBIE’ are the only ones that reached the $1 Billion mark so far this year.

quote:

“Barbie” towered over the box office for the third consecutive weekend, taking down newcomers “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” and “Meg 2: The Trench.”

Grega Gerwig’s fantasy comedy added a remarkable $52 million in its third weekend of release, a decline of just 43% from its prior frame. “Barbie” has generated $459 million in North America and will imminently cross the $1 billion mark globally.

Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” too, stayed strong in its third outing with $28.7 million, dropping only 39% from last weekend and bringing domestic ticket sales to $228 million. The R-rated historical drama, which has remained a force in Imax, landed in third place behind the sequel to “The Meg” and ahead of “Mutant Mayhem.”

Another rough one for Disney

Disney’s HAUNTED MANSION was burned to the ground on its 2nd box office ride—falling -63% with just $8.9M, $42M total.

Pushing out the Haunted Mansion at the end of July (when it’s almost certainly going to be up against major blockbusters) may be one of the dumber moves I’ve seen in awhile.

Agreed. Not saying it would have been a massive hit, but wouldn't have made a lot more sense to push out a Halloween movie in say October?

The original 2003 version starring Eddie Murphy was released Thanksgiving weekend. That was a date that made a bit more sense as it was a family, holiday-themed movie that released during an extended holiday weekend.

Or even around Halloween as a family friendly alternative to slasher/horror flicks.

Now, it may very well be a terrible movie but it did itself no favors at all.

Oppenheimer was very good.

Barbie was probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen.
