I was watching a Leo Dicaprio movie(Gangs of New York) and it occurred to me that this guy hit it big because of the great actors he was fortunate enough to star or co-star with.
He's my top choice. Who do you have?

I’ve not seen a big Worthington led movie in years. 2012 to be exact.

That's because he's been filming Avatar 2 since that time.
I don't think that movie will ever be released and yet it seems it's been in pre-production/production for years.

Lets just say the above example is just a case of Leo, a fine actor in his own right, having to share scenes with the undisputed finest actor of his generation, sure Leo is going to look like amateur hour.

There are other examples such as Catch Me if You Can with Tom Hanks, The Departed with several..
I consider Leo an Average Actor. I will give him a nod at the Aviator

That DiCaprio fricker's gonna be tough to beat.
He's so overrated as an actor, I wonder if he made it big because Harvey Weinstein fricked him and they're both keeping quiet about it.

Worthington is in Joel Kinnemon, Joel Edgerton, Charlie Hunnam, Taylor Kitcsh, Justin Bartha territory.
They’re fine, serviceable actors and will have some decent stuff, but never going to carry anything.
They’ll be in a good movie or show, but you could substitute a lot of other people for them.

So movies where he had to share multiple scenes with screen legends such as Tom Hanks and Jack Nicholson? Got it.
Look...Leonardo DiCaprio is not the greatest actor of all-time, we get that, but he certainly isn't mediocre. I personally think he held his own in The Departed and was fantastic in that film.
Everyone thought he was going to be nominated for an Oscar for his performance in The Departed but was instead nominated for the other movie he did that year, Blood Diamond.

Leo's a good actor in his own right. He just likes to work with better actors. He was great in Django, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Wolf of Wall Street. Oscar nominated for Gilbert Grape when he was still a teenager too.

I called him average which is most cases is above mediocre. It sort of sounds like you are agreeing with me.

I will add George Clooney to my list. In fact I consider Leo a better actor than this overrated dude. The only thing he's ever done that I thought was good was O Brother Where Art Thou?...

The dictionary defines the word mediocre as "of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad." Mediocre is the synonym I think of when I see or hear the word average. There are other definitions of the word that are more in line with your thinking, but that is not the way I think.
Either way...that's neither here nor there. Bottom line, I fundamentally disagree with your feelings about Leonardo DiCaprio. I would argue that his performances in Man in the Iron Mask (1998), The Beach (2000), and Gangs of New York (2002) were not up to his usual standards. However, I feel like starting with Catch Me if You Can he really started to hit his stride as an actor and has been really solid ever since.
