I'm not going back to find it but there was another guy on here saying how it was going to do so terrible that they might not even make a 3rd installment and if they did, there would be almost no interest in it. You're underestimating the amount of dumb on here.

So- semantics. Hundreds of posters here, and you found 4 to flex on because you love Avatar?
Good for you, I guess?

I'm not using semantics.

The user clearly asked for some links because he was arguing that nobody said Avatar was going to flop and I gave them.

That's it - the user said that doesn't count because it's only 4 people so he was the one using semantics.

Frick yeah I love Avatar.

I would think even 4 counts as a bunch.
Because you need it to, so as to not concede you were obviously wrong.

Which you obviously were.

quote:

Furthermore, if there are 4 who commented, there's going to be more who lurk and had the same sentiment.
"They could exist, so they definitely do"

straight lulz

quote:

And I've counted more than 4 unique users who have made comments saying Avatar 2 wasn't wanted or was going to flop.
Now who is moving the goalposts.

quote:

There's way more posters on sites like Redit as well who thought it would flop.
Woketards don't count

There are more than 4 on this board if you google Avatar Tigerdroppings.

There's at least 10 I counted just by clicking two links.

I didn't think I'd have to link them all because you asked to provide links for a few.

You're now shifting the goal posts for some reason.

Ok, but still. What is the point? People had bad takes... that's literally the entirety of the internet.

Cameron told the outlet, added that just for the film to break even, Avatar: The Way of Water will “have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history. That’s your threshold. That’s your break even.”

Well, to be fair, it still hasnt turned a profit
quote:

1 Avatar $2,922,917,914 2009
2 Avengers: Endgame $2,799,439,100 2019
3 Titanic $2,187,535,296 1997
4 Star Wars: The Force Awakens $2,068,223,624 2015
5 Avengers: Infinity War $2,048,359,754 2018
6 Avatar: The Way of Water $1,930,116,607 2022

You really thinks its going to get to 2.2B in 1997 money? And even if it hits 2.2, it still wont have made any money

I obviously wasn't wrong.

It's not that I needed to at all because it's the literally definition of bunch.

I'm not sure why you're being so pedantic when even the dictionary definition proves you wrong.

You're the one who moved the goal posts by redefining what bunch means to your own definition.

Cameron clarified he was just talking out his arse a bit on that

quote:

Cameron told Wallace, “I never actually gave it a number. I said it would have to be among the highest-grossing films in history and somebody else applied that number and it got picked up. The number is actually less.”

quote:

Cameron also said about the sequel’s break even, “The point is we’re going to be okay. I’m sure that we’ll have a discussion soon with with the top folks at Disney about the game plan going forward for Avatar 3, which is already in the can – we’ve already captured and photographed the whole film so we’re in extended post-production to do all that CG magic. And then Avatar 4 and 5 are both written. We even have some of 4 in the can. We’ve begun a franchise at this point. We’ve begun a saga that can now play out over multiple films.”

The real number is reportedly around 400-600 million plus probably the same for marketing….and that includes filming all principle photography of part 3 and some of part 4

Wrong.
“ There is no publicly available, definitive answer as to the exact dollar amount, but overall, the film is reported to have cost Disney $350 million, according to Variety.”

It has turned a profit. A rather large profit.

And it's slightly funny because the numbers are handled by a 3rd party organization so not Disney themselves.

Probably owned by Disney

It’s like these “third party apps” on your phone really owned by Google/Apple/Facebook

Where is the lie?

I simply stated facts.

In mentioning that I've not seen it yet, I don't know too many who have. Went with the family to see the 1st movie, and it was all the rage. Everyone was talking about it then.

Now? Seems pretty 'meh'. Not a bad movie, but sort of been there and done that.

Saw No Way Home, and recall it generated a lot of buzz.

Almost like your personal bubble is not representative of the population writ large…..wonder if this revelation could be applied to other aspects of your life?

Food for thought

The funny part is you believing you're offering some deep, important lesson here.

You're not.

I've said all along that whether it does well or not, I hope Cameron decides to work on making a sequel to Alita. That's something I'd go see, but I'm not holding my breath.

This is exactly the sort of movie which should be seen in a theatre. And if I have 3 hours to kill, maybe I'll check it out.

Most people grasp the concept, so for most people it’s obvious. Based on your posts across this board, the concept seems impossible to stick with you though…and this response further reinforces that it will continue not to lol
