I though signs had some really great spooky atmosphere going up unto the last 5 minutes.

signs: SFP cut

end the movie when the lights go off

that is 1 powerful, badass movie outside of m night's acting

i must have the worst taste in movies ever because i thought the happening was entertaining.

great movie, umm... no. but entertaining.

either you people take movies way too seriously or i am just too easy to please. i would much rather it my way.

i liked sixth sense but my complaint is that the same reason it was ruined for you. for me it has zero re-watch-ability. it was a good movie but once you know he's dead the whole time there really isn't any reason to watch it.

that is not a good reason to not like a movie imo.

seriously, any movie with a twist would fit this criteria.

i haven't liked a single movie he has made, including sixth sense.

if i want to watch something about a kid who sees dead people, i'll watch stir of echoes.

i should say that i haven't seen everything he's done...just enough to keep me away from anything he ever does

I have yet to see this movie, but the thing that I've assessed from the reviews is that they butchered the source material. People familiar with the series have said that they don't think they used a single line of dialogue from the series, and it just seems completely retarded to do this with a series that is renowned for great dialogue.

But it really isn't the story that makes the series so enduring, since the story is really just another "Chosen One" story arc that has been done hundreds of time, but it is the characters that inhabit the universe. Aside from maybe Ozai and Long Feng (which they're supposed to be unlikable), I think I liked just about every character in the series. The only character that they apparently got remotely close to doing correctly is Zuko, who I thought they would most likely frick up since you could easily get an Anakin vibe from him.

But something tells me if you watch the series SFP, you will realize why everyone is calling this an abomination. Its just quite astounding how much he fricked up source material that is this good.

I watched the first three episodes today. Netflix has the entire series on streaming. Pretty good so far.

The series gets much, much better as it progresses. Season 2 is where the series gets most of its critical acclaim.

My problem with the M. Night was that it was painfully obvious he did not understand the series,

SPOILERS

First, Aang's character is a care-free prodigy (even for an Avatar) who really doesn't believe in himself or truly want to be the Avatar. He doesn't fully accept who he is until the LAST 2 EPISODES OF THE ENTIRE SERIES. M. Night ended that aspect of Aang's story arc with this movie.

Second, Aang is called the "Avatar" for a reason. At the end of the first book when the moon fish is killed, the ocean fish becomes enraged and uses Aang as an "Avatar" to unless its fury on the fire nation. Aang did not attack the fire nation on his own because he WASN'T STRONG ENOUGH YET. M. Night, however, misses this obvious point and makes Aang show this extreme power on his own.

Third, part of the entire tension of the series is that Aang has only ONE year to master all the elements before the comet arrives. The whole point is to tell the audience that no matter what happens, it seems that Aang will ultimately be unprepared in that moment when he faces the firelord. M. Night ruined that tension by showing the sheer strength of Aang too early.

Fourth, It takes Aang a LONG time to master the Avatar state (end season 2). Another important aspect of the story in that if he dies in the Avatar state, the cycle has ended. Yet, M. Night shows his mastery of it in the first movie?

Fifth, Kutara is the main character of the first season. The show starts out revolving around her. It focuses on her belief in Aang even when he doesn't believe in himself. She is the driving force behind making Aang who he is in the third season. M. Night makes her a spectator in this movie.

Yeah, the thing I've assessed from the reviews is they seem to have butchered Katara's character the most. The only thing people have said Katara is in the film is filled with hope and cries alot to where she is quite literally the Ember Island Players version of the character. They axed her storyline with the waterbending master and Zuko takes her down very easily in the film, when Zuko is originally defeated by Katara in the series but is only saved because the sun rises. Katara should be tough, confrontational, sarcastic, and supportive, not a person who cries. In fact almost all of the clips I have seen it looks like she is always on the verge of crying/is crying when I can only remember her crying in the series once, which is at the very end of Season 2 (and there was a good reason for that).

I started watching it a couple days ago and had trouble getting through the first 6 or so episodes. Now after that, it seems the story is picking up and I am completely hooked. The childish aspect did take some getting used to though.

Some times when everyone hates something it's because it's actually terrible and not just because "it's cool"......This is one of those times, the dude blows.

I was sick last year and somehow stopped on this cartoon while channel surfing. It just so happens that they were showing every episode of the series and I got sucked in. It's a good cartoon IMO. I kept telling myself I shouldn't be enjoying a cartoon as much as I was but I watch it for 2 days it seemed.

You wrapped up almost everything i was wanting to say. This movies plot is to rushed. I will watch the other two movies just because i loved the cartoon so much. I honestly cant wait until Aang learns firebending and can use lightning. God i hope M. Night doesnt frick that up.

The first few episodes, Aang does some stupid childish things, but once he finds out about the Comet and the time limit he has, he stops persuing these childish acts and as a result the series gets better as a whole.

This was just a complete raping of a great story. I don't even know what to say after coming out of the theatre. My 12 y/o thought it was a terrible movie, as well. It was like someone was feeding them their lines in an elementary play...WTF!

After seeing both Airbender and Twilight this weekend. I'd suggest if you had to make a choice go see Airbender.

Both movies were below average. Airbender at least had its moments.

lady in the water was just stupid, but not bad

I actually agree with this - though I've only seen The Village, and have merely read the plot summaries of the other two. I liked Signs when I first saw it (I was about 12), and in retrospect I do think he did an okay job in building up the suspense. The ending was fricking lame and utterly nonsensical, however.
