They originally wrote Opie that way and then Ron Howard's real father talked to Andy Griffith:

Legit CSB.

'You’re writing Opie the way most sitcom kids are written. They’re wiseasses and smarter than the dad.' And he said, 'Ronnie can do that, but what if Opie actually respected his dad?'"

She should have never brought home that charcoal briquette in Noah. All down hill after that.

He is lucky he didn't punch Tony lights out too.

That dude was one of the most unlikable characters I've ever watched in a TV show

They were awful personalities but incredibly funny and entertaining. I don't want to smack them, I want to laugh my arse off.

The Soprano kids, you genuinely want to smack them.

Did any character on the show have redeeming qualities?

I can’t think of a single recurring character that I was pulling for. They all had dominant unlikable qualities.

I always liked Carmela's dad, but he was an enabler of his daughter's toxic marriage.

I've wondered about that too. Do they write the kids as a-holes because the writers and their children are actually like that, or does that make them more interesting and easier to write about?

I really do think most Hollyweirdos view kids this way. As horrible little annoying nuisances getting in the way of someone’s real purpose. Maybe it’s a passive representation of this worldview or intentional propaganda for that worldview.
