It's the Godfather of action movies. And I mean that sincerely.

The first one really shocked and surprised me. I thought it was going to be a truly awful piece of shite but it turned out fricking awesome. 2nd one was meh.

Wasn't the biggest fan of the two John Wick movies when I saw them, but the more I see them, the more I like them.

The trailers look very ho hum but I loved Atomic Blonde & I know it’s the same director.

John Wick is not as good as everybody hypes it to be, but it's action sequences are old school, high quality, and highly thought out.

There's no shaky cam jump cut bullshite from what I remember, just long-take highly choreographed stunts...and Keanu is the perfect guy for that. Plus, now everybody loves him because of his public perosna and perception as being one of the nicest, coolest guys in the business.

I've seen part 1, and although I thought it was quite overrated, I'd still pay money to see the new one. It's kind of a throwback to the great action films of the 80s and 90s.

The first one is a damn good action movie. shite, I would rather watch John Wick than Mad Max Fury Road. It’s up on the same level as Die Hard.
Haven’t seen the second one but I need to.

Disagree on all points m, John wick 1 is not even a rewatchable action flick and camt even hold a candle to most superhero flicks and that’s saying a lot

It’s some of the better action in a movie ive seen in a while. It’s realistic, the music is intense, and Keanu does a great job.

Everyone needs to check out the movie “Polar” if you like John Wick. It has Mads Mikkelsen who i think is an underrated actor and it’s very enjoyable. A great popcorn action movie.

JW is a top 10 action all timer for me, JW2 is mediocre. JW3 looks amazing and I think it will easily surpass 2.

Yeah, I'll agree with you on that. But John Wick and The Raid movies are the best action movies out there.

Someone more well versed correct me if necessary, but I heard the other day that the director used to be a stunt coordinator and this was either his first shot directing or one of his earliest as being the director. And that’s why they went all out on the stunts. He wanted to control all of that and make a good action movie.

yeah he was Keanu's stunt double on The Matrix (which is how they knew each other). he's a big fan of Yuen Woo Ping, one of the best action choreographers ever.

read this article, very cool stuff: Neo's stunt guy on how "The Matrix" changed action forever

Was there a particular moment during the production when you thought, Okay, this thing is going to be big?

I remember my first time on camera was in the government lobby sequence, when Carrie-Anne does her wall-up. We had rehearsed it a million times. We had squibs that had to go off. It was all practical effects, so you couldn’t have a cell phone within 300 feet of the stage, because at the time, the frequency of cell phones could set off the electronic squibs. They had over a thousand squibs, and they’re blowing off, and we’re seeing them and just going, “Oh my God.” I had to do a thing where I cartwheel over to an M16 rifle, pick it up with one hand, and then Keanu shoots and goes into the fight or whatever. I remember the setup was a day turnover, so you get one take, and it takes a day to reset, and then you do the second take.

I had barely met anybody on set at this point. I’m in the getup, and I’m getting ready to go, and I remember producer Joel Silver walking over to me — I had never met the man before in my life — looking me right in the eye and saying, “Don’t frick this up.” Basically, don’t miss. And he gave me that little stare. He’s a very intense person. And I was like, Okay. Don’t miss gun. They said there’d be a lot of debris, so I just practiced doing the flip with my eyes closed. And I swear to you, as soon as they yelled action, the first squib went off, and I couldn’t see shite. I just threw myself in there and magically found the gun and grabbed it. I was only 25 and I was like, Don’t miss gun. Don’t miss gun. Don’t miss gun. But after that scene finished, I remember calling everybody back in the States and just going, “Yeah, this is gonna be something different. This is real stuff.”

They are good in that the action is well choreographed and the plot is decent.

However, i prefer more Die Hard/Mission Impossible type films.

Not at all. JW is very slick and stylish. Everything looks "cool." Compare that to Die Hard or any of Stallone or Schwarznegger's work in the 80s. Those were more realistic, gritty films. I like the JW movies, but they are the nu male of the action genre.
